Rotary engine model made with a 3D printer

Postby jamiel » Sun Oct 14, 2012 9:14

At a 3D printer demonstration yesterday by Loveland's http://www.alephobjects.com/, the presenter had a hand cranked rotary engine model that they had printed. I took a quick video of it to share

That's cool. I want a 3D printer. I have a million uses for one. I cut my dash apart and was gonna mold my EBC moduel in it. But I stopped the project because I want to make a 3D CAD drawing of the whole so I can just drop that section in there and fiber glass it in. Might try one of those 3D printing sites where you send your files in.

Years ago....mid to late 70's. Monogram or Revell had a transparent model of the rotory (also had a V-8 kit). It was a rather large scale and I think an electric motor spun the engine and the spark plugs flashed. I built one for my high school auto shop, along with a "cutaway" (one chamber) of the rotory that died in my mother's 73 Mazda (RX2 or 3). Can't remember which car she had but I do know it had round tail lights.

I remember seeing the V8 at toy stores, always wanted one.

I just heard about this recently from someone at work. So cool. Reminds me of how the Fifth Element was put back together.
