Since this was touched in in a different thread, I thought I'd put this here.
My wife is accommodating, but doesn't quite understand my car hobby. I'll get the stink eye if I spend too much, but otherwise, she doesn't say much. I'm sure there are house projects she'd prefer get done ahead of, say, installing a rollbar. Having a 4 year old makes it more difficult to get car time as well, although he loves to help.
I will say she has no desire to ride or drive the Miata. I think it it was stock and in pristine shape, she may, but that's doubtful.
What's everyone's significant other think of their car hobby?

Lol.. Girls like cars much better if they are shiney and pretty! My priorities are go fast.. Then look good. My girlfriend is accepting and actually helps. She torqued the main caps on my last engine build.. Hope it lasts!! She is usually much more excited about projects she gets to drive /ride.. Like my cb750 build.. Only problem is she will strangle me if i build a single seat cafe seat... So now i have to figure out a seat that looks good and can accomodate 2 butts!

My wife doesn't get it much at all, but she looks at most everything through a critical financial eye, and I think we can all agree that customizing/tuning cars is generally not a financially sound decision.
She does like that since I have started working on cars, I am much more apt to undertake a lot of other projects as I feel more confident in being able to rectify problems. She also likes the fact that I can help her friends when they have issues.
Vierte: I see two cafe bikes in your future. If/when I get a bike, it will be bought at the same time as one for the wife is purchased. I don't like riding with a passenger.

If I was single I would have problems. I tend to take on too many projects at once. She is good about limiting me and keeping my hobby in control. She enjoys sports cars and motorcycles and is very helpful in the garage with the right supervision. And like Shadow says she has her own bike, not because I don't want a passenger but because she would rather ride her own then be a passenger. My screen name on here is actually ripped off of her bike! she calls it the Darkwing Duc, and has the personalized "DWDUC" license plate.

My wife isn't into cars. The Mustang is the first performance car I've had that she's actually liked. She says she likes it because it's mean, heh. But she doesn't like going fast. It was all I could do to get her to ride along for 2 laps at HPR. She gets sick really easily in moving vehicles, can't do roller coasters, etc., so it was cool of her to humor me for a couple laps.
Most of my mods were purchased with bonuses from my job so she didn't fight me too much on them. I no longer get bonuses after getting my current job so the mods are few and far between now, but not because she won't let me get them but rather because the money just isn't there very often.
She likes the Miata. She doesn't drive it much but she likes riding in it. We like to take it out to the country with the top down and look at the stars. She also likes that it has that old smell to it that reminds her of some of the cars her family had growing up so it's got a bit of nostalgia to it.
Oh, and I will never have his and hers motorcycles like some here and my parents. She absolutely hates them and will never get on one. She doesn't fight me much on car stuff but when I get around to actually buying a bike she will fight me tooth and nail on that, lol.

It's a mixed bag for sure! She's actually into fast cars/bikes, but she was pretty resentful when I initially bought the MSM. She felt that the money I dropped on the MSM should have been spent on vacations for both of us to share.... Which, I surpassed my "projected budget" in a pretty big way when I bought it and as such drained my coffers more than expected. I tried to explain to her how phenomenal of a deal I got on the MSM, but that logic didn't sink in with her initially.
However, after going for a few spirited drives, she really loves the car itself! She resents what it stands for in a way, but at the same time, she's asked me to borrow it numerous times and has semi-joked about taking it while I'm sleeping (I work graveyards/sleep during the day)... but she knows full well my reaction to her borrowing "Mia" would be haha!
I honestly don't trust her to borrow my cars due to the fact that she doesn't take care of her own vehicles very well. "Drove hard and put away wet" kind of thing... Plus her WRX has new scrapes, scratches and rashes on it monthly and the interior is always cluttered/worn.... You wouldn't believe her car is less than a year old! That's a no-go for me.
She likes cornering in the MSM and thinks it's even peppy in a straight line! Not as fast in a straight line as her WRX (or even my Infiniti), but it still feels like it's moving nonetheless. However, the only way to get her resentment to subside was to promise to hold off on modding the car until we got a good overseas vacation in... so, you can guess where my money will be going for a while.
Plus, I've also got to restore my savings account to a "healthy" level again to say the least!
Funny enough, while she didn't like me spending money on the MSM, she was also pretty heartbroken about me selling my last bike (Suzuki SV1000S). She understood that I needed to sell it in order to come up with extra cash needed to buy the house (as well as all appliances, repairs, ect) last year, but she was pretty bummed out about it. I think if I would have bought another bike she likely would have been much more supportive than she was of the MSM. She misses riding together and she hasn't spent much time on her bike (Honda CBR600 F4i) since then. I'll probably get another bike one of these years, but if I do, it'll probably be something closer to a "sport touring" kind of bike.... but I have other things I would like to do before I get another 2-wheel play-toy.
