CMZC birthday bash comments & suggestions

We appreciate everyone's feedback from the birthday bash as it will influence the decisions we make for next year's 2nd annual bash! What did you enjoy the most? What would you change?

I want to take a minute to thank Ron (skydiver) for all his help. THANK YOU! Ron was there first thing in the morning and he really helped me out with the judging and the cooking of the food. He was there helping out even when he was trying to entertain the guest he brought.

Really Ron, thanks, I couldn’t have done it without you.

Also I know they are not reading this but I want to thank the Judges as well. Their willingness is worth more than everything to me. I couldn’t have done it without them as well. Thanks.

Next time i might be able to get us a snow cone machine and a jumping castle from a family friend. That would be a nice treat for the kids. Plus attract attention from off the street as well.

It was a good show. And I'm glad I went.

Next year we need to be more centrally located. That was a little much of a drive to go to a show. 1.5 hours.

We need some activities to do durring the show. maybe between bands. There was a lot of just standing around. And we need somewhere with shade.

Top of the list suggestion is absolutely no venue change once a venue is decided. After that, definitely more advertising.

As far as the actual show itself, I thought the bands were great, and it was good to have a few vendors on hand as well. If it were to once again be held in a large parking lot, we should look into renting a large tent. It was hot out there, and no shade to be found.

Entertainment that gets people involved is a requirement. Once everyone was done checking out the cars, there was a lot of milling about. Set up a little race track with inexpensive RX cars. Set up some other games. I'm not saying it needs to be a carnival or anything.

Club literature/info booth type thing. Have CMZC cards ready, I was asked a few times by some members if we had some. Have CMZC stickers ready. Etc, etc. Club shwag. While word of mouth is good, we send some non members away only "asking" them to check us out, rather than having something physical that would remind them when they got home.

While this would definitely be fun, but as the ex-regional Solo chair and a former member of the BoD of the Wichita SCCA I can tell you that it would be much easier to just piggyback with an SCCA event than to try to set up one of our own.

Finding a suitable lot is tough enough when you have the full backing of the SCCA (which carries a very nice insurance package if someone were to get hurt).

Equipment. Does anyone have a couple hundred cones laying around? Timing equipment?

Those 2 hurdles alone are probably more than we can overcome on our own.

I would like to do an autox, but the way they have the events set up out here, you have to be there ALL DAY long. Right now, that just isn't really possible for me. In the future, that should be different for me.
