Wife just gave me permission to get a 2010 R3. Just took it for a drive, and she feels good. Initial glance looks like exhaust from old series will fit, as well as CAI and BHR Coils.
They relocated the oil filter and dipstick. Axial flow says their shifter won't fit but they're working on a solution.

IIRC the cat-back is different due to the different rear bumper. The midpipe (catpipe) and manifold/header is the same, however.
Intakes are the same and so are ignition coils, so you should be good.
The motor is different with an electronic OMP feeding 3 oil injectors per housings (vs 2 with the older Renesis), they removed the P2 Aux fuel injectors (so now 4 injectors total vs 6 with the older version).
The transmission is also new (hence why your AFE won't work), the PPF was redesigned (transmission is braced from the opposite side). The rear end also has a different final ratio.
The suspension was also completely redesigned, and it handles better than the previous 8's. The R3 adds Bilstein shocks, stiffer springs, lip spoiler, Recaro buckets, etc.
Other than that the car is mechanically similar, but a few other little tweaks. Just be careful, I expect to resale to plummet HARD with the newer RX-8's, just as it did with the last generation RX-8's, and basically every other Mazda ever made...

Im hoping ill be able to own this thing by the end of the week. I crawled underneath to look at the exhaust at the dealership. The mount points look the same but i can see the point about it having to mate up to the newer facia. Might be something that can be resolved with minor modification.
I kinda felt bad for the salesman, he didnt know anything about the car.
Thanks for the input, deff gives me a good direction to run in

That was my next Q!
Were there rocks on the street. I nearly biffed it one day on a turn when it was loaded with rocks last year. I think it was around this time too. Nearly slid across 2 lanes and into the median. If I were trying to have fun on that turn I probably would have made it over.
New one will be red.
After talking to USAA i'm about to take a big one. The vehicle is being taken to USAA's physical inspection lot in Denver to determine total loss or not. The aftermarket parts are not figured into value so i dont get anything extra for them.
In order for me to get my aftermarket parts i have to pay out of pocket to have the vehicle towed from their lot in denver by a tow agency to an auto shop, have the aftermarkets removed and replaced with OEM, THEN have it towed back to their lot. It all has to be done by actual towing and mechanics. I cant get it myself, take it to a parking lot, swap the parts and bring it back.
Anybody know a mechanics shop and tow service in denver that will give me a good deal on doing the swap?
