Hows it going guys new to the forums here really hope this website to be helpful and to learn new things. I have a question hopefully someone can help me out.
Its been about a year since this happened and i have not payed any attention to it until now cause i need to do my emissions in about 2 months. What my car is doing is that when I put it into gear and take out the clutch the Transmission grinds really bad and you cannot put the car into any gear. I am wondering if by any chance it would do with anything about the clutch pedal recall. If anyone can give me any details I would be very grateful

Bad clutch pedal bracket. If you get under the dash you can look up and see the clutch pedal bracket is woefully supported and just tack welded together.
Chips Motorsports sells a reinforced clutch pedal bracket: http://www.chipsmotorsports.com/products/drivetrain/rx-8-clutch-pedal-upgrade
Or take it to the dealer and get them to fix it ASAP.

Thanks guys. I actually too a look at the clutch pedal braket this morning and everything looks good. You step on the clutch pedal and it feels strong. Im going to pull the tranmission off this week. Because with the car turned off you try to put it in any gear and its feels very hard. How much pain in the butt is it to take that sucker off?

Any noise from the clutch pedal? Creaks, squeaks, etc? Looks can be deceiving. There are also a couple of related TSBs out there. One for the slave, and another for the shift fork, I believe.

When you put the car in gear and let out the clutch it grinds? Was it in gear in the first place, does it pop out, or do you mean when you pull it out of gear you cannot re-engage trans? If the pedal throw or hydraulics are off, you are not releasing the disc from the pressure plate/flywheel sandwich. Will the car start in gear? Does the clutch drag in gear running trying to move the car slightly on level ground?
If the tranny grinds when you let the clutch out (like the statement says) and the car doesn't move, then we have other (mechanical) issues.

Plus the bracket is physically weak, so when you push it down it flexes and bends, which in turns means the clutch is not fully disengaging.
As far as removing the transmission, it's not the most difficult job in the world, but it is time consuming, requires a good amount of tools, and is vastly easier with a lift. You have to get all the bellhousing bolts off (the top one are difficult to get to), unbolt it from the PPF, support the weight of the trans with a jack stand, unbolt the driveshaft from the rear diff and slide it out, then remove all the connected accessories i.e. slave hose, transmission electrical connectors, under chassis bracing, exhaust system from the header back, shifter from the interior, etc.

The 04-048 trans are notorius for having issues and depending on how long you ignored an issue it it possible the trans is damaged. Also the clutch itself might be having issues. It takes us about 2 hours or less to drop the trans at the track, about an hour or less here in the shop. I do have an 04-08 trans here on hand that is in good condition (45k miles) as well as an assortment of clutch and flywheel bits. Be glad to help.
