Sucks to say, but in a situation like yours with a car like that, an attorney might be in order.

Holy s**t $6-10k?! Yeah right! Who quoted that? I mean, I haven't seen the damage up close, but all I can see in those pictures is a bashed up fender and bumper. Unless the frame is bent too, it couldn't possibly cost that much to fix. And even then, I think $6k is overdoing it. Do you have the choice of which shop to take it to?

Man...I am so sorry :( Who's your insurance company? I went through this very same thing when mine was stolen so I feel your pain. I hate to say it, but if the damage is really $10k (and again, I can't see how it could possibly be that much), you're probably not going to get around it being totaled. Most insurance companies will pay to fix up to around 60% of the value of a car, any more than that and you really have to fight it. I had to do everything I could to get them to pay to fix mine, including threatening to get an attorney. Do whatever it takes...ask to speak with supervisors, and ask them how they are calculating the value of your car. Show them appraisal values for similar cars. Show them it can be a considered a collector's car. Basically just let them know it'd be a lot cheaper to fix it than to total it. Hopefully you can convince someone that this car is too nice to be sent to a crusher.

If it does get totaled, are you going to buy it back and fix it? It'd be such a shame to see this car off the road for something this stupid.

If they want to total it out don't let them have the car. They will pay you the money that it's worth and make sure to point out what it's actaully worth. Then buy it back from them. It shouldn't be more than 1k to buy it back. Fix it up and it won't have a totaled or salvaged title at all. But whatever you do don't let them have the title BUY IT BACK. Once they have the title it will be branded totaled for the real. It's saveable. Don't let it go to the junker. Tell her not to look into the light and everything will be jsut fine.

So I looks like it won't be totaled out, my insurance company says that they will let me fix it if need be, so now I am waiting to see what the girls insurance company says. He came out and looked at it yesterday and said that it shouldn't be a total loss but he had to go home to research parts because he wasn't able to find any on the web. He was searching for like an hour too! He is going to call me back and then get me a check or whatever today, if things still work out. Then I can take it anywhere and so far I have heard that Jewel Auto Body is one of the best places to take it. Any other suggestions? I will also have to take it to a dealer to check on the smoking issue. It looks like all in all it should work out though.

My insurance company is Safeco and they are actually doing a good job, keeping me informed and explaining what the next steps are and everything (might be cause they don't have to pay for anything) and her insurance company is National Property and Casualty...or something like that. Besides the fact that both places kept talking total loss for a few days (until I got them to look up the car) was the only thing that I have had to deal with.
