Re: Build thread

So far it's working, I sure hope it's fixed. Cody said it bypasses the clutch switch but I've had that hooked up to a hidden switch for years anyway. I don't even use the switch but I suppose I could run this wire through the switch if I decide to someday.

Zico pumped the brakes while I discovered the source of my leak. It's coming out of the ebrake actuator. Ugh. I guess I'll have to rebuild that now too. I'm thinking that will be after the events this Saturday though.

I also added more preload to the rear springs. I had bottomed out the rear coilovers before so I had added more damping, but Andy suggested adding preload and dropping the damping back down.

And I got the DV plates today. I keep forgetting that I have to mount the front plate on the car now. Oh well. At least I have the bracket and it's all ready to bolt on.

You have to mount the front plate? I've gotten away without it on for quite a while now.

I thought I did. Years ago I had the plate in the windshield and they told me to mount it on the front. Maybe this was in Illinois though lol, I don't remember.

I've been pulled over for that. I always run a front plate, no reason to bring added attention to myself.

Yeah I'm gonna install it anyway. It's already on the bracket, just two bolts to install.

I don't have anywhere to mount one... If I ever get stopped for it, I'll probably get one of these: http://www.hidetheplates.com/Motorized-Hide-The-Plate-License-Plate-Bracket-_p_9.html

That would be cool. Someone recently said they used to have one on a hinge and at speed the wind would push it back. I picked up a stock mounting bracket and it bolts to the bottom of the front bumper bar.

Looks like I might have to wait until Sunday and rebuild the rear calipers again. I can't get the ebrake linkage out past the retaining pin, it only turns so far. And I think that's due to the piston being installed still.

Shadow has a clever little bracket that makes his whole front plate mount easily removable. I'd like to copy it but I don't want to remove my stock mount because I'm scared of what the bumper looks like underneath it.

Oh was he the one talking about that? I couldn't remember who it was. Turns out my stock mount doesn't fit great with the FEED bumper. So I might rig up a hinged one.

I just got back from Golden. Always a good time. And the car was great. I checked my brake fluid before we left up there and it hadn't dropped at all. I also didn't have any click click starting issues. As a matter of fact the first engagement of the starter is super strong every time.

I pulled the driver's rear caliper off on Sunday and started tearing it down. I was checking a thread on 7club that I didn't know about that had just been written when I rebuilt my calipers earlier this year.
http://www.rx7club.com/3rd-generation-s ... d-1099583/

I had to get the special snap ring pliers he mentioned in order to get the threaded rod for the piston out of the bore. I got the pliers in the mail today and started tearing down the caliper the rest of the way. The parts in the driver's side look decent, but not near as good as in the passenger side. And the bearing on the driver's side is trashed too, along with there being a lot of black good in there, it was just nasty in general.

The passenger side parts and bearing look way better. There was still some grease in there too, although it was discolored.

So I'm looking for the replacement bearings, and/or another caliper for parts. If someone local has a spare driver's side rear caliper, I'm interested.

The mazda parts number for that bearing is H001-26-205 and it looks like you can still get it.

I emailed Ray Crowe last night about the bearings and haven't heard back. I called Bob Penkhus tonight at 6 and they had just closed for the night.

Thanks for your help, Chris!

I talked to Ray's counterpart on Friday and he's going to mail the bearings tomorrow. I found a pair of calipers on eBay for $100 and it turns out I've talked to the seller on facebook before about buying a subframe last year. He was the one that quoted me $400 for shipping. I asked him on Friday if he had any more pics of the calipers or could test the ebrake actuator at least. He said he'd get to it this weekend, so I assumed they were at a shop or something. I asked him around noon if he'd taken a look and he said he'd look when he got home in a couple hours. So I asked a few hours later and he said he hadn't gotten to it yet and would PM me when he had. Yeaaaahhhhh, I'm done with that BS. I guess he doesn't really want to sell them. So I bought a pair of new ones from Rock Auto. Then my buddy in Cali messaged me back and said he had some spares, I totally forgot I had asked him haha.

I've been looking at doing some LED lights for headlights. I've been trying to do sleek lights like the old RE Amemiya lights for years but wanted to use LEDs so I didn't have to cut the stock metal to mount them since they're smaller. After seeing this video on this floodlight/flashlight this guy made, it gave me some ideas. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-vgNh3fLxJc He's using eight 100w LED chips, and they're about 9000 lumens a piece, and headlights are usually about 700 lumens. So that's WAY too much haha. I figured 60w may be enough, and probably still too much haha. Plus I need some help putting everything together, between the LED chips, heat sinks, resistors, reflectors, and whatever else. So I guess I'll be calling Bogdan about that too haha. I'm thinking about doing some 30w for the low beams and higher for high beams. We'll see how all this plays out.

I was able to cancel the calipers from Rock Auto and I got one from another guy on 7club for $60. I'm supposed to have it by Friday. I haven't heard about the bearings yet, I'm assuming they shipped today.
