I did my bushings with a vice and different sized sockets. Worked out pretty well for the most part. Some of the sockets will have to be pretty damn big though. Luckily I still worked in an actual maintenance shop back then so I had all of it at my disposal.
It's not too hard to replace the thermostat. I'd do that pronto. Even if it's not bad, it's not a bad idea to replace it anyway.
Do you still have your charcoal canister in the car? That should take care of the fuel smell if there isn't a leak. If there is a leak, I would think you should be able to see it on the ground or something. Get a piece of safety wire or a paper clip, put it in the diagnostic box under the hood going from GND to F/P and turn the key to the accessory position. That will run your pump and you should be able to hear if any fuel is leaking.
And post some damn pics already! LOL
Oh, and you might wanna think about replacing the pillowball bushings too. Do you hear clunking when you brake or turn?

I don't think the t-stat is bad after all, but I got one so I might as well replace it like you said. Not sure if it still has the CC in it but probably so. The fuel smell went away anyway, so I'm sure it's fine.
Which pillowball bushings were you referring to? (Aren't most of them pillowball to begin with?) The bushing kit is for all the control arms, rear traction rods, and the diff. Idunno if I will replace them now though...this car will (sadly) be for sale as soon as I get a title for it.
If you're wondering why...well, I just totaled my daily driver, a '95 240SX. I'm really upset about it...thing was super clean, the best one I had ever seen in CO. But it was my own stupid fault for driving on bald / near corded tires. I had a blowout on I25 in the construction area by Castle Rock, spun, and clipped one of the concrete barriers. I love that car too much and feel bad about it already...I'd feel even worse if I let it get sent to a junkyard. So I'm going to buy it back and make it my project drifter. That's what the FD was mostly going to be for, but I can't afford to keep it anymore.
I'm thinking with all it has, I'll probably ask around $16k...that's less than I put into it for sure.

I had planned to get another pair of the silver colored rims as I like those a lot better than the black on this car. I really want to lower it more in the rear too, but I was going to wait until I did the bushings, since I will have to take the whole shock out. (I need to remove some of the adjustment collars in order to go lower.) I don't know if I'll even bother now...

Well damn man that sucks! I like those wheels! Are those 17s or 18s? What brand? I'm about to pick up a set of Work Meisters...18X11 +30 and 18X10 +29, for street wheels. That and I've always wanted wheels with a big lip haha.
Sorry to hear about the 240, too bad you have to get rid of the FD too. If you have any control over it, please make sure it goes to someone that will take care of it.

They are knockoffs of an old Saleen design. Do you have stock fenders? If so, on the front, an 18x10 +29 might work, for these though I had to roll the fender lip and relocate a couple of the bumper mounting points. Anyway I fully intend on buying another FD some day...it's my dream car after all...just not the right time for me to own one haha.

I trust the owner of the shop who did my clutch (not the one who did the engine install), but I don't trust some of the people who were working there. The whole thing is sketchy as hell and I'll never take my car to a shop again unless I absolutely can't do the work myself.

Ok so I'm not selling it. Took the cash for my 240 (it was beyond repair) and bought another daily driver, no sweat. I love this car too much to sell it anyway, and the market is crap right now. Instead, I just ordered a high flow cat / midpipe combo for it. I cannot wait to get this car street legal again, I'll be driving it everywhere for a while I'm sure

just read this thread and sorry to hear about your car and even more sorry that i couldn't have told you about a little known rotory builder in the atlanta ga area that could have rebuilt your engine for 3k with streetport, does amazing work on his engines he rebuilt mine after a guy had a rock on the back of his pickup truck and hit a bump causing it to fall out onto the road right in front of me in heavy traffic. Needless to say it bounced under my car and hit my oil cooler lines and smashed them up pretty bad, one was nearly severed. It took me 2min to get off the road in that traffic, the last 30 seconds of it with a dead motor since people don't seem to take flashing lights and a smoking car as concern to move out of the way to let them to the shoulder.
