Eric- do your CJ spacers sit flush with the LIM, or do they stick up a little? After lubing the o-ring on them I got them to slide in, but they are sticking up about 1-2mm above the surface of my LIM. I don't think they can sit any lower. Just curious how yours sit. With them sitting like this I need a spacer on my fuel rail to raise it up since the injectors don't go all the way down.

The injectors should go all the way down regardless, since these aren't really keeping them from sitting down but making a tight seal around the smaller o-ring. I think mine might stick up about 1mm but I don't remember for sure. I'll have to take a look at it.

Tyler came over today and we tried to put on his body kit but he got it from Extreme Dimensions and the front bumper wasn't wide enough, by about 2 or 3 inches. DO NOT buy anything from Extreme Dimensions, because it will require extreme modification.
Image

After we failed at putting Tyler's body kit on, I started porting the manifold with the crappy burs I have. I went to Sears to try to find some good burs and called around to all the stores and they were all sold out. I'm going to check back this week to see if they came in like the lady said. This pic is from when I first started. I got one side worn out to where it needs to be (aka no black showing), but it still needs to be angled down a bit more on the inside. I still have to do porting on the T4 side.
Image

I also received my intercooler today. The fins are pretty beat up in some places but I'm going to straighten them out the best I can. This core is just the size I wanted. I'm going to do a pressure test in some water first, then again after I straighten the fins and clean it up, just to make sure it's still good.

I also got some other parts in over the last couple days. I got the injector plugs that I'm going to shave down so they press against the secondary rail to stay in place (these are for plugging both ends of the injectors). But now I'm thinking those injectors from Mazdatrix would have worked just fine since they are stock size and these are 14mm so I'll have to use the spacers. DOH!!! I also got the 4AN Y fittings for the vacuum routing to the wastegates and some of the 4AN fittings for the wastegate vacuum ports.

Oh I also got the 6AN gauge sensor adapter. Still not sure if I'm going to use it or just drill and tap a hole in the water pump housing. What do you think?

Alright I just ordered the injector plugs that Chris suggested from Mazdatrix LOL. I don't want to use the spacers if I don't have to. Dave has me scared now LOL.

I would wait to drill any holes in the water pump housing to install the AN fittings. Just run it with a hose for now. You don't want something bad to happen and then you have to scramble to make DGRR. Just wait until you come back.

No I'm talking about putting the water temp sensor in there. I'm waiting to do any AN fittings in the housing until next winter probably. A couple of reasons actually...

1. I think it would be cleaner because if I use this AN fitting/adapter, I'll still have to ground it with a wire. It would be difficult to see, I know, but you know me LOL.

2. I was thinking the temps I'm getting right now are only from one trip through the engine, since right now it's measured at the rear of the engine. That coolant still has to flow forward past the exhaust side. So my temps are probably not very accurate right now after all. If I measured at the rear of the WP housing behind the thermostat, I would get the hottest temps.

So, a few people to put on the naughty list...meaning, companies that haven't shipped out what I ordered yet.

A-Spec...on 29 February I ordered 4 1/8NPT to -4AN fittings to be used on the boost control solenoid and the front of the turbo for vacuum connections, and I'm still waiting on them. I also ordered another oil drain fitting (to be connected between the line and the port on the engine) so I can include the one I have with the turbo when and if I sell it.

There was another company I had bought some stuff from but I got a refund from them and didn't know it because they're out of stock and don't know when it will be restocked, so I have no problem with them. It was the 45 degree and 90 degree -4AN male/female fitting to go on the oil feed for the turbo. Oh well, I'll have to find those elsewhere. I tried ordering them from ATP but for some reason they wouldn't let me order, and I forgot my password for RX7store so I couldn't get them from there either.

I ordered a few shirts from that JapaneseNostalgicCar site Chris mentioned, haven't seen those yet either. I believe I paid for those on 24 Feb. I already fired off an email to them and A-Spec. I'm sick of waiting on companies to fulfill orders. Dave knows what I'm talking about lol.

I just ordered those 1/8NPT fittings from ATP turbo and the 45 and 90 degree fittings from RX7store. Got them both to work for me this time haha.

I'm also using this to document just in case another company screws me over on shipping something lol.

Ha! I'm waiting on my oil filler neck I paid back on 02/20 for!

I had an issue with Summit too...I ordered some Aeroquip -4An hose that I ended up not needing, so I sent it back with the enclosed USPS pre-paid label and return form. That was 2 weeks, and I'm still yet to hear anything. I think the post office lost it. Luckily it was only a $30 hose but still.

When do you think you will have it all put back together?
Pics of new intercooler setup?

Yeah that's what I was talking about Dave lol. I've never had a problem with Summit though.

Jason, not sure yet. I will end up having a couple things to mock up still, like AN lines for the vacuum routing and the dump tubes for the wastegates. I also need to get the new intercooler end tanks redone so they'll work for me.

I finished porting the manifold today with some Tungsten Carbide bits for the Dremel. Unfortunately I was covered in thousands of little steel splinters afterwards haha. Think fiberglass is bad? Think again lol. This is what I ended up with...

Here is the intercooler. I tested it in water and only saw a few bubbles so I pulled it out and straightened the fins. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. It's not perfect but it's actually better than I expected, and it's as good as it's gonna get. After that I put it back in the water and I'm going to let it sit there and see tomorrow if it has any water in it. I wanted to pressure test it but I couldn't find any couplers or caps the right size at Lowes. There is a problem with this thing though...I'll either have to get a different 2-cycle reservoir or hack the driver's side of the end tank off and have it re-welded the way I need it. That side hits the reservoir and won't sit center.
Image

After all that, I decided to finally hard-mount my fuel filter to the subframe. Before I had just taken some bicycle innertube, cut it down the middle, and wrapped it around the filter and then used hose clamps and clamped it to the subframe. I took Dave's filter bracket when I was up there last weekend. I drilled a couple holes into the subframe (had to buy a 90 degree pneumatic drill because of the lack of space between the fuel tank and the subframe) and then bolted the bracket to the subframe.

Oh yeah, here are the wheels too.

Sending them back to get the faces recoated in a solid matte gunmetal shade, and the lips will be chrome. I was going to do SBC but they'd have to ship them to Cali for that.

He also said they're working on a new forging that will have a flat face and that he'd swap them out for me at no charge in a few months or so. I'm going to test fit these on the car tomorrow I think.

All looks good man! I think that intercooler will look awesome- it's exactly what you've been looking for. Are you going to get it powdercoated black?

I might get it powdercoated just so the damage isn't as noticeable lol. Or maybe I'll get the whole thing anodized, fins and all.

I did some major work tonight. My head is spinning from everything going on. I think I may have bit off more than I can chew in a month's time lol.

First I drained the radiator. I'm going to pull the radiator out and get new mounting arms welded on so it's not so ghetto. I'm going to borrow an RX-7store VMIC radiator from Mike down here and see if the arms are where I need them to be, then either mock up some arms from cardboard or take both radiators to a shop so they can weld the new arms on. Mine will be a little different because of the tow hook on the front. I want to put the middle crossmember back in the car so I can rest the mounts for the new IC on it, and I have to move my current radiator forward a bit so the hoses don't hit the crossmember. Of course I also have to get the new IC modified to fit my new setup. Here is a link to the radiator Mike has...
http://www.rx7store.net/product_p/vmount%20radiator.htm

I took out the old turbo and started putting in the new stuff, to see what fittings I need for water and vacuum lines and everything else like that. I MIGHT not be able to do water cooling anyway, because my water feed fitting for the rear wastegate comes really close to the vent line for the oil catch can. You can kinda see it here if you look hard enough lol...
Image
I'm going to try to get some -6 fittings to fit these holes instead of the adapters I ordered, and then use a 45* fitting on the rear WG and a 90* fitting on the front WG.

Then I started hooking up coolant lines to the turbo. First I noticed I can't use the banjo fittings because of the plug on the other coolant port on each side, which sticks out too high and won't allow the banjo fitting to seat fully against the CHRA. Then I realized I can use one of the 90* fittings from the old setup on the feed side of the turbo, but on the exit side the fitting pushes against the firewall, so I'm going to see if I can find a fitting that is angled more than 90*, or I'm going to have some problems. Here it is hitting the firewall...
Image

I've also decided I'm going to mount the coolant temp sensor fitting in the water pump housing, because I found the perfect spot and I have room for the sensor and I won't have to ground it with a wire in the hose. WOOHOO!! I'm going to test it first in one of my old WP housings. Here are some pics...
Image

Image

And here is a pic of the room I'll have for the sensor on my actual setup. Kinda hard to see though...
Image

And here are a couple pics of the setup overall so far...

I'm going to call HorsePowerFreaks.com tomorrow and see which springs they put in the wastegates before they send them out. If you open one of the air ports, you can see the colors of the springs. I may be wrong, but it looks like I have an duplicate spring as one of them in the WG already, which is really going to tick me off since I may not have what I need lol. But I guess I could just put some reasonably light springs in there to get me a low enough boost pressure, since it's only for a backup situation anyway and doesn't have to be exact.

Also, does the length of the vacuum line going to the wastegates need to be equal on each side? Will the difference in lengths effect the response of each WG? Like if the line is shorter to one of the WG will it respond faster than the other one?

Did you get any aN lines for the flux capacitor?

Your build is now way over my head.

Ok, who's going to be ready first for DGRR?
