those parts are new. It's yellow zinc plating, you can't really fake that. I would paint the parts only because they won't stay that nice. If you want to keep that look you could always get raw steel look paint.

that's exactly what the gold zinc is for. it is a sacrificial coating

I forgot to answer this before. Yes they are. Last engine I built I only had them resurfaced and there was a lot of damage from the corner seals, looks like the rotors slapped the irons. This time I wanted them re-hardened.

I'm planning on doing it this weekend, maybe even start pulling the engine tomorrow night. But I may not actually get to build it this weekend. Depends on the condition of the housings, seals, etc...whatever I want to reuse.
I'm sure I won't be able to have it running again before next week because I just ordered some plugs today to plug the coolant nipple (or lack thereof) when I cut it off.

Thinking about doing solid corner seals again. Unfortunately this would set me back to finish the engine until next week sometime, but it's already looking that way anyway since I plan to get my 2-cycle tank powdercoated.
Anyway, I ran solid corner seals on the engine I built and I was happy with them. If I knew where they were and if they were in good shape I'd just reuse them, but if I remember correctly a couple of them were pretty worn down.
So, thoughts?

Well other than the new irons, possibly new housings (depending on the condition of the current ones), new apex seals, and new oil control rings and springs, everything else will be reused. All the side seals and springs, corner seal springs and possibly corner seals, even the apex seal springs, will all be what's currently in there. This engine only has a few thousand miles on it, if that. I don't figure the corner seals would be bad already and I didn't think the housings would be bad already but looking through the exhaust ports I'm not so sure of that. I want to break it open and see what they look like all around. I may be picking up a pair of good used housings for $600, or $650 not sure which haha.

Alright I think I'm gonna go solid corners, but now I have to decide which ones lol.

I was doing some reading and a lot of people were saying the solid ones wore down a lot faster. I had solid ones before and a couple of them had worn down if I remember correctly. That and other talk about the rubber plug helping against resonance from vibration and a lot of people were saying their solid seals cracked but the stock ones didn't. I would have thought otherwise.
The only downside to stock that I heard of was that the rubber plug didn't last long. But when I broke down my original engine last year I only had one plug missing. I thought about trying to get Viton ones but I haven't found any yet.
All that added to the fact that it's one less thing I'd have to wait on lol.
And in other news...after a discussion tonight about thermoswitches, I learned that FC thermoswitches come on around 207F and shut off around 194F, which is exactly what mine is doing. So I guess there is nothing wrong with my system lol.

Right on the thermoswitch temperature range. But the fans can also be triggered by either the ECU, electrical load, or air conditioning. Your fans won't come on when the pfc tells them to, so my guess is there is something wrong is the relay for the ECU to turn the fans on. But all other systems are working for you.
