Yeah that's true. I'll have to check on that.

I have a feeling this is going to be a somewhat unproductive day lol. I forgot to paint the irons until now, so I'm going to mask those off and paint them and bake them, that way they can be ready for the build. As I'm painting them I'll start emptying the engine bay. I have my buddy's going-away party at 4 though so I won't be able to work for very long today.

Dave are you using solid seals? I don't remember. I remember us having a hard time getting the apex seals to seat haha.

Yes I am using the Atkins recessed solid seals. Yeah the apex seals are a little more trickey to install, but I would just leave the top corner seals out and slide in the apex seal and springs into place, then put in the spring and corner seal.

We finished stripping down the engine today. The housings are screwed, and not really because of the surfaces, although that's not great either. They're screwed because the coolant passages are corroded in a way that looks like someone used acid to cool the engine. It's ridiculous. Even where the coolant seals rest is pitted, so it's no wonder they were leaking. The irons are so grooved that it definitely catches your nail. The rotors are just about the only reusable thing in there. There is also a broken corner seal. Also, I'll be buying new metal oil control rings because those are pretty much done already too, and I'm going to get all the spacers I need. I had an 'A' spacer in there, so I'll buy the B through E spacers too. I also need new o-rings for my fuel injector adapters.

Eduardo also suggested I look at getting different outer water seals. The ones I have are the same ones that were used in the build and they were separating. Eduardo said the ones from Rotary Aviation are one piece.

Is the inner water seal is what you need. Rotary aviation water seals are teflon encapsulated. I wouldn't trust those atkins water seals, low mileage and already falling apart.

I've heard good things about the Pineapple Racing HD seals too. I might just get some of those. I think they're Viton.

So I'm looking for housings, and I found a brand new set still in the box for $1550 or so, and I found these...

I'm also a little suspect of the e-shaft. And if I get a new e-shaft, I'm gonna get new bearings too.

These are the housings I was looking at for $600. Maybe if I got these and then sent them to Goopy, I'd have somewhat new housings for around $1000. Hmmm...

I was going to tell you about pineapple racing as well. Ports don't look right on those housings.

Yeah they're a bit strange lol. I'm trying to see if I can send my housings off to NRS to get redone or check with Goopy at least. And not THESE housings, but the ones from my previous engine.

I'm not sure yet if I'm gonna get a different seal kit. Like I said, I never had a problem with them on the engine I built. And I'm pretty sure those are the stock ones.

You can just come over sometime and see them in person lol. This engine isn't going back together so they'll be on display for all to see lol.
