TK + Tune = A Whole New Animal

Postby GR-8 » Thu Jul 08, 2010 9:14

So I got my 8 tuned last night up in longmont. Turns out I didn't and couldn't wait till the 17th for various reasons. Car was tuned @ Boost Creep ltd. by Dave. Not having a good EBC and loose actuator arm on the WG hidered the car from holding boost past 4200RPM. Good news is that I am making stock torque under 3k RPM and stock HP before 4.5k.

The final numbers till I get an EBC and correct the problem with the waste gate are......248.4 WHP @ approx. 6k RPM and approx. 260WTQ @ about 4.5k RPM. This car just feel fan-freakin-tastic. It's soo awesome you have no idea. I NEED to get an EBC to feel it's full potential.

As I loose boost pressure power starts to give out after 4200 RPM
Image

Weeeeee.....then we fall flat. WG wants to/is being force open. We will see where I reach in a month or so when I get an EBC. After I tighten the actuator arm I should feel a huge difference.

A third chart of 277.7 RWHP. This is from a run done 2nd through 5th gear.

Glad you like it man.

You actually hit 277rwhp on a rip pull 2nd thru 4th.

And Harvey was saying his dyno reads about 30hp less than MAC's, so you can figure at least 280rwhp-ish if we went to MAC.

But yeah, boost is falling off just as the engine is coming into it's VE and flowing the most air. The proof of this is your max airflow (294 grams/sec) came at 7000rpm, when you were making just 5psi.

Interpolating your HP graph, with a proper boost controller holding 12psi, you will hit 310rwhp no problem.

You can see in the second graph you posted, the line that spikes at 4200rpm is boost. It soars to 13psi (an EBC will make it spool quicker, too) then falls flat on it's face (I mean by 5,000rpm you were already >9psi). The second line is AFR's, holding pretty steady at 11:1 save for one spike, but it doesn't even effect tq or power. Next time on the dyno I will spend more time smoothing that out.

Thanks for technically clearing all that up. :) Can't wait. Should have an EBC in 2-4 weeks excluding shipping time. ;) All a matter what kinda deal I can find online or at a shop. Shall add that 277.7 sheet when I get home.

The car should be there. Just need to find someone that will follow me there at 6am and drop me off in Golden right after. Sadly I won't be running it. By the time I get there the show will probably be ending. If I did I don't think I'd be going all out down the quarter anyway.

The 277.7 RWHP chart is posted on the first post. A pull from 2nd to 5th.

That 3rd graph of running through the gears REALLY shows how much boost dropping off is hurting your power. You can see the power and boost spike, then both fall flat.

Get an EBC man so we can break 300rwhp!

Geez, and those are the numbers on a DD dyno. Just noticed that now, for some reason.

No kidding. I can feel it. Did a little fun run against the DTS. I was in 4th rolling about 65. We hung together but I was loosing power. Shifted under 7k rpm and started to move again.

I need to save up and quickly.

:D It's nice to ba able to cruise 6th Ave in 6th and casually move around slow moving vehicles. Before I'd stay in 4th, sometimes 5th, the whole way or I'd downshift from 6th to 4th just to make a pass.

Getting on I-25 this morning was super fun. Was in the right lane going like 30 in 2nd. Had room infront of me and a gap to move one lane left, with people who know what highway speeds are, so I gunned it and the car just leaped forward. I was doing 60 and had passed 4 cars in the slow lane in like 1 second.

So just a little updat on how the car is doing on gas mileage with the Turbo and larger injectors. Note that I still enjoy getting on the gas when I don't need to and shouldn't and have had a few run-ins with people wanting to challenge me.

I just filled the car up tonight with my last fill up 206 miles ago. Tonight I added 13 gallons in the car. So I managed to get about 16MPG on mostly spirited driving. Not too bad. This is more than likely half highway, half city.

I left your closed loop operation pretty much OEM so you should be getting the same mileage as long as you're out of boost, LOL. You'll cruise stoich or leaner all day long.

The problem is, it's very difficult to stay outta boost!

Yep. Hence why I only got 16MPG. But to me 16MPG is great. Especially after driving my brothers Northstar caddy around for a few weeks. That thing got 16/mpg with me driving like an old man.

Yeah I think I averaged 15-17mpg with the turbo on, and that was at least 85% city driving, so I was getting into boost quite often.

Off boost, however, it drives like a stock RX-8.
