Will pay in food / beer / cash etc...FD air pump re-installation...
FD air pump re-installation...
Hey guys, would anyone in the Denver area who knows about FDs, be willing to help me install an air pump on my car? I need to take the water pump housing off...a sensor broke off in the back of it. And it looks like I will have to take the whole pulley assembly off in order to do that. So I figure, since I'm going to try to make my car pass emissions, I might as well put the air pump back on while I'm at it, but I have no clue where it goes. I'm having trouble removing the alternator bracket as well...it looks like it's attached to a bunch of other stuff, but I can't really tell. Need some help from someone more experienced here

Damn if I was home I'd help ya. Have you looked in the FSM? Do you HAVE an FSM? lol There are some online if you don't have any.
The alt bracket is very easy actually. Loosen the bolt you would use to adjust the belt, take that bolt all the way out. Then take out the piece it was screwed through, there is a nut on the front of it. IIRC that's how it goes, I haven't looked in an FSM or anything, just going from memory.
And if you can look at some pics you can tell where the air pump goes. Do you still have the other stuff you need to install it all the way? Like the pipes that are bolted to the LIM? What about the solenoid in the rats nest?

I haven't tackled that stuff in my car yet, but I'm always willing to lend a hand. I also have a hard copy of the complete factory workshop manual.
Plus, my car has the rare air pump (LOL) still installed, so we can even use it as reference.
I do know some people wire up electronic air pumps for emissions, tho, like what the RX-8 comes with from the factory. Maybe look into that if you can afford one (I still have my stock 8 air pump if you need it). That way you don't have to remove as much BS, hook up a belt, then rip it all back off. The electric air pump should be easier.
It should be easy enough to wire in- just hook it into the factory wiring for the stock air pump clutch. That way it will turn on/off whenever the PCM wants it to, easy as pie.

I have the FSM and a few other official documents and helpful stuff on CD. Not sure what all I have. But I have CD's of them so we could always make copies if you need that. I am willing to help work on your car as well. We can always look at my car since it's still 100% stock
. If I could ever get the help I would be pulling all that off of my car anywho. Lemme know, I haven't seen you in over a year now prolly.

Thanks for all the offers for help guys
Yeah, Obie, I haven't seen anyone on here in a long time! I've kind of been away from the car scene I guess. Hopefully I'll manage to get this thing street legal so I can make some meets before the summer is up. Or at least get a car that's worth going on a mountain cruise in. Hmmm, since you want to pull out the emissions stuff, would you maybe want to swap parts out with me? Your air pump and related parts for the replacement pulley / etc. that's on my car? Not sure what all that would entail but I'm sure if a bunch of us FD owners get together, we could figure it out.
To be honest I'm on the fence about whether to put an air pump back on or not, as I don't have all the parts I need to make it work. (To answer your question Eric---I don't have either of those things.) In fact I might just give up entirely on making it pass emissions, because while checking this out I realized that EVERYTHING emissions related (including EGR) has been yanked out. Look at page 115 (F-114) in this:
http://foxed.ca/rx7manual/manuals/1993FSM/%28F%29fuel_and_emissions_control_systems.pdf
I have next to none of that stuff hahaha. I should just sell it to some guy in Texas or something and buy one that DOES pass.
