Another New FD in the Springs

Postby FDEEZ » Sun Aug 11, 2013 9:14

Greetings! I'm relatively new to the Springs, and didn't find out about this forum until one of your members told me about it while I was filling up at a gas station. Didn't catch his name, but he had a red FC w/ a single turbo cosmo motor.

Anyway, here's a pic taken of my clunker today when the weather was good. Nothing special... Pretty much stock'ish with a few reliability mods.

Hope to meet you other Rx7 enthusiasts (if you have any gatherings or cruises).

What time are you guys usually out at Sonics? And Is that rain or shine?

Btw, I admire your GSL-SE. I had an 84 SE from 96-03. Letting it go was one of my biggest regrets.

usually around 6:30. best bet is to check the thread Friday afternoon and see who is showing up. There is also a local facebook group that is worth joining. some people post there to say if they are going. Colorado Speed Freaks

Thanks

Since the weather looked nice, I decided to try to take the clunker out.

After a loong hibernation, she starts :) It only took a new battery charger, two Optimas connected in parallel, and a few hours of troubleshooting...but she finally fired!

When I get a chance, I'm going to install the Duralast Platinum I picked up this morning. Hopefully I'll get more reliable starts from the swap. After going through 4 sets of Optimas, I think the change in brand is way overdue.

I have an Optima Yellow Top that I got in 09 and I think it's on it's way out. I've heard they're not very good anymore though, so it's probably a good idea to change brands.

Today was gorgeous. I wish mine was running, I would have taken my Mom along and gone cruising with you.

Optimas are good until they completely loose their charge, then they turn into trash. I ran one for about 2 years until I didn't close my door all the way and the dome light drained the battery, never could get it to hold a charge again.

I personally think Odyssey's are the worst though. Went through a few of those (PC680) as well. I haven't tried an AGM-type battery yet...so hopefully it'll work out better. Nowadays, I really don' care about weight reduction...just reliable starts.

I had an Odyssey PC680 that wasn't worth a crap during the winter. I got a Braille but I drained it one night when a light stayed on. I usually kept it on a battery tender though.

I'm like you though now, I'm all about reliable starts now.

LOL, I got a 45 lbs AGM 710CCA battery, tired of small batteries going dead. I'll save the weight somewhere else.
