Just moved to Boulder!

Postby Telluride » Fri Oct 17, 2014 9:14

New to the forum and Boulder, co. I have been living in Telluride for 5 years before moving to Boulder. If anyone in the area is familiar with cars or just want to hang out, hit me up..... Just moved here and haven't met many do-it-yourself car owners, other than 4x4 guys. Are there any normal meeting places?

My name is Brent. I was a mechanic at one time, but now I buy and sell cars for myself.

Here is my mod thread. Nothing special, just some minor mods.

Welcome.

Continually amazed by the number of FD owners here. Car sounds tough with that exhaust.

Thanks! It does sound nice(granted I have a small exhaust leak at the mid pipe, I haven't checked how tight the hardware is after a couple warm ups)
I've been hurt with a herniated spinal disc and slowly working on the issues......the idle is spuratic at times....once fully warm, it will purr right at 800. Blip the throttle/let off the throttle while driving it will bounce at 1000-1100 rpm then idle down to 800 perfectly. If I start it up after a drive, it will start up and idle at 1000ish rpm then idle down to 800.....then bounce between800-500 twice, sometimes stalling, but after that idles perfectly. If there are any gurus in there area, I pay money for advice. (I have checked for/fixed most leaks. I did the tps adjustment, new plugs, wires, etc). Next is fuel pump and fuel filter.

Welcome. That idle stuff does seem weird. Do you still have AWS and did you check out the dash pot adjustment. I would also try to reset the Idle. It is possible that the cold idle is having to make too many IAC steps to keep alive.

thanks, I will check into that. Is there a guide to resetting the idle? I've pieced things together from the Internet, but haven't found anything fully dedicated. When I did the tps, I set the idle screw under the intake to a half turn from closed. Ps: I have not removed anything from this vehicle, other than the AST and stock exhaust.

Also, is there a reputable rotary specialist in the area? That would be good to know!

Welcome!

Sounds like you're on the right track to reset idle. The air bleed screw is supposed to be set half a turn from closed, just like you did, and the screw on the front and the one on the back next to TPS should just barely be not touching the linkage wheels or whatever they're called lol.

I'll check it out whenever I get my new fuel pump in. Being hurt limits what I can do in a day. So, slowly, but surely. :)

Welcome!

Nice looking car. Hopefully you can stick to your plan of "mildly" modifying your car. That was my original plan when I bought my car too :)
