smoking tail lights

Postby AxelaR8 » Sat Jan 01, 2011 9:14

On my mustang I used rvinyl's tint for the tail lights and it was easy and looked good. For my 2011 3, they don't make the tint because of the odd angles and surfaces of the tail lights so I've started researching spray tinting. Any thoughts?

Nevermind. I didn't see a 2011 mazda 3 shown. Maybe if you can contact him, he might have one done.

Talk to Eric (OCD) on the forum, he could probably do it.

See Eric (OCD) for sure. I prefer tinting to painting, because you can't undo paint. And if it doesn't come out right and he has to take it off, he won't charge you.

Pep boys actually sells a spray on tint, The more the coats the heavier it gets. Out of the 13 cars I've owned I have used the spray on six of the cars. Looks good.

OCD did mine, but you are gonna have to twist his arm to do another MS3. Those tail lights are a bitch.

This is fairly old, but I'm still going to post.
The lights on the new 3 look horrible to try to tint, but it can be done.
There's a good tutorial over on mazda6club that someone wrote up about tinting the mazda 6 tail lights using VHT NiteShades spray tint (and sanding and polishing to make it look good). I thought the turn out was very nice, and I've wanted to do this myself but haven't yet. Apparently you can remove the VHT NiteShades with some lacquer if you mess up also. I can get the link if you want.

Lacquer will DISSOLVE plastic... not sure that sounds like a good idea. Seems to me the only way to do that spray tint right is to not **** up the first time, otherwise a new set of taillights may be a purchase for you in the near future
