So ever since i installed my CAI and exhaust whenever my car is somewhat cold i will be in first gear and if i just slowly push the gas pedal to 4k and then shift into second and FLOOR it, the car seems to lag a little bit. it sounds like its bogged down and then it will slowly increase and when it hits 3k rpm in second gear it like gets a sudden burst of power and takes off. I tried taking it to my mazda dealer in cali and after they replaced my butterfly intake valve the damn thing still does it. SOOOOO i figured i would ask the homies whats up. anyone got any ideas. Do i need to re map my ecu?

Did you reset the ECU after you installed the CAI?

what kinda exhaust did you get? in some situations these mods give up sacrafice low end torque for gains in the upper rpm range.
I might be talking out my arse tho.

With the CAI you can expect to see less low end grunt, and more up high. I had a mazdaspeed CAI on my old 3 and noticed a difference down low, felt as if pulled much harder up top than in the lower revs.

You're suppose to. But the ECU will eventually re-learn and adapt to the freer flowing air.
It may just be a cold engine operation thing. It goes away once it warms up?

I don't know if reseting the ecu really does anything. I guess it couldn't hurt, but i never reset mine on my old 3 after the CAI install or on my MS3 after the Cobb install.....

I'm going to move this over to the NA section, as your car is not turbo/supercharged, no good to have a thread like this in the forced induction section.

What those guys said.
Aside from formerly owning a Mazdaspeed 6 (formerly the highest hp MS6 in the state), I also worked at a Mazda dealership for quite a while, and contributed pretty much all of the technical stickies over in the Mazdaspeed section:
http://coloradomazdaclub.com/forums/index.php?showforum=33One of which contains pretty much every dyno I ever pulled in my Speed6, to show the difference between mods, and how the MS cars react to different mods:
http://coloradomazdaclub.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=85So, I've got a good bit of Mazda experience & knowledge, not to mention I think Mazda is a great company. Although, if you take a look at my sig, you'll notice I'm not close minded to any particular brand. I enjoy fun cars... it just so happens the STI is an absolute blast to drive
