Cobb AccessTUNER Race

Well, for any Cobb users, AccessTUNER Race is available. You can create your own maps, datalog, etc, etc. To datalog, you also have to download the dongle driver (not my words) for it to connect to your car. So the easy steps:

  1. Download the AccessPORT Updater. Not needed for the tuner software, but it's an easier way to keep the firmware on the AP updated. Think of it as a live updater, almost.
  2. Download the newest AP Manager. Not needed for this, but there's a newer one out there. Install is typical rambo click.
  3. Download AccessTUNER Race. Short survey you have to fill it, then they email you the link. Typical easy install, once again.
  4. Download the dongle drivers from Cobb.

And you're good to go. The page Cobb updates with new info for the RX-8, other than the forums, is http://www.cobbtuning.com/info/?ID=3873. I actually ran through some datalogging this morning just to check it out. When I tried last night, ran into a few issues. The OBD2/USB cable was broken...it would work just enough to get power to the AP, but wouldn't communicate to the car. My Blackberry USB cable fixed that. And, I had to search for the dongle drivers, those weren't included or mentioned at all in the Tuner install instructions, nor is anything about connection for datalogging in the PDF at all. All in all, a fun new toy to play with. Watching the 3D graphs and charts update in realtime is wild stuff.

It's definitely cool stuff. I could do all sorts of damage with this! Haha! The "dashboard" feature is cool, I wish it was slightly more customizable, but it allows you to pick and choose various things to display as a gauge on your laptop screen. This would be really cool if you had a built in car pc.

Well, I changed my fan settings, saved the map, and uploaded. I thought by default that the Cobb Stage 1 map changed the fan settings, but it didn't. I basically just copied the settings Racing Beat uses for the fans, and applied that to my car. The result: I was hitting 208 on my commute to work. Since I made the change, in basically the exact same weather/driving conditions, I'm running 18 degrees cooler. no other changes were made. Max temp has been 190.

Difference? The default fan temps are 97 and 101 degrees C (207 and 214 F). The Racing Beat flash settings I emulated drops them to 87 and 90 (189 and 194 F).

I downloaded the AccessTuner Race but cannot figure out how to data log with it? Do I have to have a lap top in my 8?

Yup. You connect your laptop to the dongle with the same cable you connect the AP to the dongle with.

Sweet. I guess I will check it out tomorrow on my drive to work. I won't be meesing with my map (don't want to mess anything up), plus my tune from MM is pretty solid.

I run rich from 8500 to 9300 (drops from 13.1 to 10.5). Maybe I will try and tweak the stock map just to see how it works. Either way it will be fun times.

Edit: when my stock intake was on my AFRs were perfect with my MM tune, but when I installed my AEM CAI it started to run rich after 8500. I am in the extremely long line of MM customers in regards to getting an updated tune. Not really a big deal, but if I can get it dialed in it would be nice.

Ha, well the datalogging part of this conversation is moot now that you can actually log directly with the AP!!

If you got your AP from Jeff (Mazdamaniac) go to this thread on the rx8club. You have work to do!

Edit: Opps wrong thread. I also added this post to the AP thread.
