AccessPort Firmware Update (RX8)

Postby *DarthRX8* » Fri Feb 06, 2009 9:14

If you haven't updated your Accessport do so.

Cobb added a dynometer which tells you your vehicles whp and wtq.

http://www.cobbtuning.com/info/?ID=3873

Basically you selet the gear you want to do your pull in, start rpm and stop rpm and bam, you get your whp and wtq.

I did it in 3d gear, 2000 rpms to 8500 rpms and got 305whp:eek: and 215wtq:eek:. Which tells me that even though I wish this was dead on balls accurate... it is not:mad:

Updated my Accessport with the latest beta firmware yesterday and the dyno feature seems to have improved.

I did a run in 3d gear from 2000 to 8300 rpms and here is what I got:

205hp @7800 rpms
147tq @5800 rpms

Good to see that this feature is pretty close to accurate. Even though I liked seeing my 8 make 300hp at the wheels:D

After installing my BHR ingnition and doing about 3 dyno runs with my AP. I got:

211whp
158wtq

One run was at 213 one was 210 and the third was 211. I took the median of all for my best run. :)

If anyone else is trying this and getting crazy high numbers I have found some solutions that have worked for me.

1. Don't try a dyno run in anything lower than 3d gear (basically you have to do it in 3d unless you want to try a redline run in 4th at 120mph!)
2. Start your run between 2000 and 2500 rpms. Anything higher and it will read inaccurate.
3. Finish the pull. If you let off early it will be inaccurate.

Anyone else trying this?

did another 3 dyno runs with my AP last night. Only change to last time is my RB exhaust and my final tune from Mazdamaniac. My lowest numbers were:

217whp
162wtq

It wasn't a real dyno :(

It was with my AP so it isn't taotally accurate (wish it was)! Hopefully I wil get a real one during our next dyno day.

Even if it was absolutely incorrect, the ability to see changes from the baseline is what most people look for in a dyno, anyway. It's cool to see the numbers change with your modifications.

If I had the money for an AccessPort I'd be all over this. :)

^True story. The numbers may not be exactly correct but it does give you a baseline. RUn the AP dyno, install a (insert part here) and run it again and you have real data if your power changed.

I just downloaded the new firmware and ran the dyno:

388rwhp
315 ft-lbs of torque

I did it at 9psi with a new timing map I made optimized for my water/meth, the car feels faster but I know I didn't make that much power. I bet I'm right around 320rwhp right now. I did make numbers closed to that AP at higher boost tho, LOL

That is exactly what I have been doing!

My first 3 runs a couple of months ago were with my AEM CAI and MMs 4_0_5 tune and I got around 205 whp and 147 wtq. I used the lowest numbers.

I finally got my BHR coils and MMs 4_0_6 tune and ran 211 whp and 158 wtq.

Picked up a RB exhaust and got my final tune from MM and last night ran 217 and 162.

I am sure the gains are mostly due to the tunes from MM. Hopefully I will break 200 whp and 135ish wtq when I hit a real dyno! :)

Ya that means you are prob making actual real power.

I dyno'ed 202-rwhp and 138 ft-lbs back when I was NA with parts. I don't know how the elevation will effect you, tho, but I think breaking 200-rwhp NA in this elevation will be difficult.

you are probably right, however Huzer hit 189 so I might have a chance.

Yeah with the correction you should be up there with Tim. I remember (not fully) but when a did a run on the dyno before correction was thrown in and all it was like 149WHP.

189-rwhp in this elevation is impressive! That was corrected or uncorrected?
