Mazda 3 2004 2.3 Noise?

Postby Sparky » Wed Jul 20, 2011 9:14

I am not fluent in all auto issues and this one has me stumped.
When I start out in first gear, I can hear a noise from under the car for just a brief second almost sounds like squealing tires, last for a brief second then goes away, usually when I accelerate (No it's not the tires, I'm not that stupid). It also does this in second gear same sound for just a brief period and only during acceleration. Sounds just like a tire squealing. When I put it in 4th and gun it, the RPM's match the odometer. So not sure if it's my clutch giving out, but as it's doesn't feel like it's slipping I'm not sure. Anyone hear this noise before or knows where I need to start in finding the issue.

2004 Mazda 3 HB 2.3L, 86K miles. Manual.

Did you identify the source of the sound? I know its way too late, but would like to have ajn answer for reference in the future.

It doesn't seem like it would be connected, but I seem to remember a serpentine belt acting like that on my Ford Ranger...
