2.3 DISI power question...MS6

Postby 04rx8 » Mon Nov 14, 2011 9:14

So im debating on either doing a GTX 2871R from ATP turbo, or trade the car in when I return from Afghanistan next year.....so my question is it has been running great with a PRO tune maxing out the stock turbo..even the stock turbo has been holding up good on 22psi. How much can these motors hold with a big turbo and a fuel pump upgrade with a protune? Also going to be running partial E-85 for a safety net. Need some feedback on what these cars are good for on stock block with a good tune from someone say..MAC Autosports and anyone running big turbo on stock block for a good number of miles? If the numbers dont look too good im going to def. trade this car in for a better platform. Thanks guys for your time.
Silver 06 speed6 mods: E85 mix 40/60, Atp highflow catted DP, Cobb Accessport, custom AP pro tune by Servion tuned at 22psi. Corksport FMIC with Ram Air intake, SURE Engine Mount, HKS 2 step colder plugs gaped .28, Forge v2 bpv, Straight piped exhaust 2.5 IN, light weight 17 in black wheels lowered on Tien lowering springs, slotted rotors, hawk pads all around. When I get back from afganistan built block, big turbo, clutch and supporting mods :)

I would go with a stronger platform or upgrade some internals just to be on the safe side. The question is - Is it cheaper to find something else or upgrade the internals?

P.S. Stay safe out there... and thank you.

It really depends on what kind of numbers you're looking for. If all you want is 350awhp, then you can stick with this platform and go big turbo and probably not even need to upgrade the internals. If you're looking for more than that, then you'll probably need to build the motor to be safe but at that point, unless you're really in love with the car, I would just move to a different platform that can hit 400+whp more easily and with less effort.

Hey guys and thanks batman I have about 5 months left not too much more time. Im thinking if I can hit around 350-360 AWHP reliably and hold the high tq numbers this motor produces reliably then ill keep it at that...right now I do have a pending deal with a built SRT4 with a GT40R turbo for around 13 so I might just dish out the cash for that and do a minor turbo swap and a mild tune to get rid of the stock K04 and leave the speed around 320awhp with the bigger turbo for a quick reliable daily driver. Thanks for the feedback :)

I'd probably move away from a FWD platform with much more than 300hp. Powerslides are too much fun, but then I live near 1000 dirt roads...

I ran my 09 Speed 3 for about 5k to 8k at 25 psi on a gt3076r. Put down 407whp and 395wtq at 23 psi and a rough tune. Dyno had unknown correction factor. Final tune would have put down 440ish on same dyno. Stock internals, transmission, clutch. Ran perfect. There are a few guys crossing the 500whp barrier on the stock internals now.

That said. 400+ hp and FWD slowly lost its appeal. What was the point when I couldn't hook until 4th gear...Part of the reason I went AWD.

Yea I only had 250whp (uncorrected) in my MS3 on the stock K04 and eventually couldn't take the understeering when getting on it around a turn and the no traction in lower gears. So I got away from FWD and now thankfully own 3 cars, none of which are FWD.

The OP has an MS6 though so those issues shouldn't happen to him.

Yikes this totally changes my plans hearing about the 500+whp barrier...btw I drive a speed 6 def AWD not FWD :) 5-8k miles? Very nice I might try to shoot for 400whp now :) thanks for the feedback the neon might be losing its appeal now lol Reason why im asking is its expensive to rebuild that engine so im trying to do it smart with a budget which is kind of hard to go hand in hand lol Anyway thanks for the feedback I welcome more.

Go with a 3076r or 35r if your balls are bigger than mine. Run 3 to 4 gallons of E85 and mid 20's psi and your car will haul. Definately get a good tune. The MS6 is a good car. There is a reason you see a lot of high horsepower FWD cars being sold shortly after a big turbo swap. They just are not practical for daily use.
