Brakes Holding Strong!

Postby Stealth01 » Sun Aug 08, 2010 9:14

Well, back in May, I changed my front pads out prior to a trip to Utah with my son. At the time, the backs were listed as having like 8mm left, and the fronts were pretty shot. Since we weren't ready financially to get new rotors and good pads, I went with Advanced Auto pads on the front with the very grooved rotors.

So after a 1000-mile round trip, a total of about 4K miles since changing, this is what the front brakes look like:

Lots of meat left, and I've done some hard braking too. So I figure I can make it to January or February before I need to do rotors and pads again.

The rears, which are still the stockers, look like this:

Also plenty of meat left. Again I figure I can make it until after the holidays. At that point, new rotors front and rear, Hawk HPS pads, and technafit SS lines.

ANd it's good that I can wait on the brakes, because this is my BEST tire:

That's the passenger side front tire. The rears are pretty much drag slicks at this point. So in October, when the snow starts, I'll be driving the Grand Cherokee for awhile. Probably do new tires in November.

On the down side, in a span of about 3 months, I'll drop $1100 on non-power-related stuff for the car.

Ugh.

What tire size are you running? I can ask around and see if anyone I know has some half used ones that will work and save you some money.

225 40 R18s. I'll look for used wheels/snow tires around that time too, then perhaps pickup summers later.

Thanks!!

yeah, I saw that thread, Barn. Keeping that in mind, but we won't have the $$ until Oct-Nov. Student loans pay then. :)

be very warry of used tires on our cars. even tho they might be the same size tire it causes issues if they're worn different.
