Comfort Blues

So the bumps & potholes really suck in my MS3, very uncomfortable... I know the suspension is tighter, but I can barely take it anymore,

Has anyone upgraded their suspension for comfort? Any suggestions?

It's probably the only thing I don't like about my car,
I'm currently driving a Corolla rental, and enjoying the smoothness and would love to have that in my MS3

thnx!

Haha, you bought the wrong car buddy. Whenever I drive my MS3, it's like a dream to drive compared to my SRT-4 with coilovers, front and rear strut bars and front and rear sways on full tight setting.

Guess you could always replace parts with regular 3 parts, but that's not helping anything at all. Not sure I'd want that much power without decent road holding capability.

Haha, I used to love driving my MS3 because of how smooth it was compared to my Miata on coilovers. The Mustang has a pretty rough ride, however. But I bought it because of it's power and handling, not for a smooth ride. You should trade your MS3 in on a Chrysler 300 SRT-8. Then you can have power and comfort, hehe.

+1

Or a BMW 335i (sans sport package). ;) LOL

<-----Wicked biased. :D

Honestly, part of the reason I got rid of my old STI was because I got tired of living with such a rough car as a daily... that car had coilovers, sway bars, camber plates up front/Group N tophats rear, ALK, tires with uber-stiff sidewalls 6 months out of the year (the soft Blizzak snow tires helped a bit haha) ect. Bought the Bimmer for a good compromise of comfort and power... and eventually picked up the Miata to fill my handling/aggressive driving needs :D

My suggestion is to buy a comfortable daily driver and a cheap track car that you don't have to live with daily.

Buy these tires

Makes a Huge difference compared to the stockers, or similar summer only tires. These are what I ran in my MS3 and will also be purchased for my Evo once it's time. It won't be as plush as a Corolla (many toyota's are soft), but it will make the MS3 much more livable IMO

What Moose said. Go with a smaller wheel and bigger tires. That will provide the most comfort.

No need, I already bought a Bimmer :D

Some people just get tired of a harsh ride.... on a long enough scale, it seems to happen to most everyone. A person's commute & the roads they drive on regularly probably play a large role in that as well. Different strokes for different folks.

I know I used to not care about ride quality, and didn't get it when my ex-wife used to complain about it regularly haha.... but after a while it got old (so did I apparently haha). I got tired of short-wheelbase cars with aftermarket (i.e. stiff) suspensions (I've owned several of them). In truth, I like something with a short wheelbase and minimal body roll when I'm pitching a car around corners/playing with it, but not for freeway-based commutes on that slotted concrete crap, or broken-up blacktop.

Although, my Bimmer is not exactly "Buick-soft" per se, as it does a pretty decent job keeping body roll to a minimum, offering good steering response/feedback (actually more feedback than my old STI...) and a balanced chassis that is fun to play with, while keeping NVH to a minimum (not to mention providing me with as much, if not more, power than most of the modern muscle/pony cars on the market with only a flash). There are cars out there that are much softer, but one thing I love about BMW is they make great compromise cars, that are nice to have for daily driver's.

As I'm getting older, I'm starting to realize why many of the older guys I've known over the years have had a fairly comfy daily driver for commuting and a weekend car (i.e. play toy) for having fun. I've owned a ton of modified daily drivers, and I can say wholeheartedly my biggest regret about buying a more comfy car as well as a weekend project car, is not doing it years ago ;)

Just my $.02 though. YMMV. :)

wanna talk about a harsh ride coilovers in a crx on near lock out dampening and blown struts....... the speed three was super smooth imo my evo on tiens was rough, i cant see how u can complain about a harsh ride in that car unless u fail at driving and own every pot hole u see. i think the protege rode worse than the speed three

you two give me sh*t for complaining, yet both complain about the exact same thing in other cars... whatever.
