Yep, definitely the old compound.

Do you use a high temp anti-seize on all the caliper -> pad contact points when you install them?

When replacing brakes on anything that's going to get beat up a bit I always use a really high temp copper type anti-sieze on any point where the pad contacts the caliper.

This provides a bit of lubrication that allows the pad to slide in and out easily. In those pictures you can see where the leading edge of the pad got hotter than the trailing edge. Adding a bit of lubrication will mitigate the un-even pad wear to some degree. It also provides a bit of a thermal medium to pull some heat out of the pads and into the caliper. Calipers don't really care about how hot they get unless you are boiling fluid... which is pretty tough to do.

Who, me? I bought the car used in September. The tires had been swapped out prior to me purchasing the car.

Well, the EBC Red Stuff brake pads are great. Right now, I've only got them on the fronts, the rears I'll do when I get back from vacation. Initial cold bite is good, not phenomenal, but once they warm up, they work really well. If you're looking to get rid of the typical RX8 squeal, don't buy these, as they still make some noise. Overall, very happy with my purchase. The only thing that pissed me off was puncturing my hand with one of the damn retainer clips when I wasn't paying attention. They are SHARP.

My old pads, assuming they hadn't been changed out, had 36k on them.

How's the dust?

My EBC Greens are dusty. I washed and waxed the car about a week ago. The car is still clean (dusty, but clean) but the wheels are needing a wash soon. When I do my MSP brake upgrade, I'm going with "dustless" ceramic pads. I'm tired of having dirty wheels.

So far, it doesn't seem bad. I've only put about 120 or so miles on the car. I'll update as I get in some more miles.

Dust update...these are rather dusty pads. Probably a little dirtier than the stock pads at this point.

My dilema is always: "is the dust worth it?" My EBC Greens work great, but is the dust worth it......

I'm thinking next time, I may just go with less dust.
