how do you paint wheels like this? they are painted matte black does anyone know of any tutorials or how much it costs to get wheels painted like that? of course i need to find a set of those wheels first and what yea / trim level they are from

Those look like RX-8 wheels. If I were you, I would have them powder coated.

You can do-it-yourself for less than $30.

I did it to a set of wheels but I didn't prep the surface very well and the paint chipped off easily. Then I took a wire brush and gave the wheels a nice "brushed" look.

And I know you stole the pic and description from somewhere else, but those aren't Falken Azenis. Those are Falken ZE512 tires. HUGE difference.

do it yourself powder coat? those ar the stock 17" mazda3 wheels just looked it up (http://www.mazda3forums.com/index.php?topic=25387.0) i dont like the 08' 16" ones at all and i have some curb rash so i would do it to them but like chris said i would rather have them powder coated professionally.... you can powder coat in matte colors?

If you were to do it yourself, it would be spraypaint.

tru... ive sprayed wheels before and dont like it... of course i did it to wheels with 220 k on them so they were very nasty and i didnt sand them well, poweder coat will be how i go if i do it. allthough i just saw a nice set of miata mazdaspeed wheels on ebay lol

I believe Mazdaspeed Miata wheels are 4 lug- could be wrong though.

The problem with powder coating is the down time. It's usually not a "I'll wait in the lobby while they take them back and powder coat them for me" kind of thing. So you have to take that into consideration if you are powder coating your only set of wheels.

And then you need to weigh the cost factor. Not sure how much powder coating a set of wheels would be, but it might be a significant portion of the cost of just buying a set of new wheels- unless you're trying to keep that "Mazda" look.

yea i was just kidding about the miata wheels... they are too thin looking (im not a fan of wheels that have huge spkes though) the oem 17" 3 ones look just right for my taste i like the litle notch at the top of the spokes. thats true about the cost thing, im not worried about down time cuz i would be running my stock 16"s until they are done. any idea on how much it costs to powder coat 4 wheels?

His looks professionally done, and this is what I plan to do to mine in the near future.

ill check those out, i have always like the konig feathers too (very light, nice style... a little thin though) and they are very cheap (129 x 4)

You would be surprised at the colors you an do in PC. I have a connection for powdercoating. The wheels will have to be media blasted before coating. I can get information and pricing if you're interested. LMK.

If you've got the extra money to blow, get them powdercoated. If not, do them yourself and you'll save ALOT of money. I spent about $40 in paint, tape, sandpaper and brillo pads. Best way to do them yourself is use a brillo pad and scuff all surfaces. Use Blue Painters tape to tape off the tires IF they'll still be on the wheels. Don't worry about scuffing the back/inside of the wheel since it gets very dirty and you hardly see it. Next scuff all surfaces very good with 150grit sandpaper. After, wash and clean the wheels very good to get rid of all dust. After the wheels are dried very good you can start spraying each wheel with one coat. Let dry and apply a couple of coats. I'm in no way any expert at this but it seemed to work pretty good on my wheels. Have not had any chipping on the wheels at all.

HOT!! An yeah they are '04-'06 OEM 17" 3 wheels. They are like mini RX-8's almost.
