the warranty on the eagle gt's is for the V speed rated tire. the speed rating for ours is W, therefore no warranty...so dont waste your time at a goodyear store.

I purchased my tires here: http://www.directbuytire.com/

Real good prices and excellent shipping prices as well.

I got Federal SS-595 tires, and I love them. They are more a summer oriented (actually drift tire), so I'm not sure how they will do in snow...I imagine very poorly. They were only $89 a tire, tho, which is a steal for the size I need them in.

OK, well, tbot is right, so I am going to Discounttire this afternoon, just for shits and grins, but this is my plan:

1. I can get Kumho Ecsta ASXs at Discounttire for $727.78 OTD and they'll probably last me 18 months, max.

2. I can get Continental Extremecontact DWS for $757.66 OTD and they might last me a little longer.

Those are the cheapest all-seasons I can get at Discount (without price matching or road hazard warranty), and I'll likely get less than two years out of them.

Or...

3. I can buy the Alpins from the guy in Denver for $500, then get some Nexxen summer tires from one of the sites in this thread for about $350 shipped, and probably get 2 - 2.5 years out of the combo for $850. I'd be paying the mounting/balancing fee each spring/fall, but that's a small cost we can budget in.

That also saves us a couple hundred to throw at the roof deductible right now, and gets me some REALLY good winter traction. Seems like a no-brainer, assuming those Alpins are as good as the guy advertises...

That's where I found the Alpins.

I presented my argument above to the finance minister (wife) and now have the APPROVAL for the Alpins now and some cheap summer tires in April.

WOOO!

Have emailed the seller saying I am interested.

Well, you snooze, you lose. The PA2s are sold. Not to me.

He has PA3s now, but they're 235s, so I don't think they'll work on stock MS6 rims, and would probably rub.

Poor wear from Eagle GTs

Postby WINGSPD » Sun Sep 19, 2010 9:14

I, too, am disappointed with the wear from my Goodyear Eagle GTs. For the most part, I drive my car like a hypermiler just to see how high fuel mileage I can achieve, and my tires are wearing much faster than expected and advertised. I have put 15,100 miles on them the past year (as of 9/11/10) and remaining tread depth is only 6 and 7/64ths. Note that these tires were not run between mid December and March 1st of this year, so I wasn't spinning them in the winter.
The treadwear rating on these tires is 400, which is better than the 320 "Standard". I saw the 50,000 mile prorated warranty. This prompted me to buy these tires, originally. I was unaware of the "V-rated Speed only" application, as was pointed out earlier. The Discount Tire manager, who has been very helpful in the past, mentioned that he would help me when the time came to replace these tires.
I'm sure that I can get these tires through to winter and they can be used next summer more aggressively/spiritedly. I won't be trying to save them at that point.
My Michelin truck tires lasted 88,000 miles through multiple winters hauling twice the weight and I still have them for emergency use. (not bald yet) Why can't we find this sort of thing for our vehicles? Nevermind, I remember the compound being so hard that I slid halfway into an intersection when braking moderately at only 35-40 MPH.

I do drive pretty aggressively, but 11K miles is ridiculous, no matter the driving.

It'll probably be Kumho ASXs. Cheap. Reliable. I've had them before, and if Discout price matches, I'll be out the door for under $500. I'd prefer to go with the Conti DSWs, but I can't do those for under $600.

Well, Epic win for me. I landed a set of 4 Dunlop Wintersport M3s for $550, assuming the tread is really 10-11/32nds, as was advertised. They showed a tread gauge on one and it was at 11/32, so I think it's legit. Pick them up tomorrow and will have them on the car around Halloween. Came off a chick's mother-in-law's A3, which was sold.

I'll probably get a cheap set of Nexens for summer tires in April or so and hope both sets get me 2-2.5 years before I need new tires again.
