looking to get new wheels

well i decided to switch from all out speed to go more into handling for next springs trackdays and autocross season, i had the epiphany about why am i trying to make a slow straightline car faster than all these others. the car was designed to take turns and do that well.

well i was looking at enkei rpf1's and these 6ul's 6ul's kinda won out because they were designed by a miata guy for the miata, and the fact they are alot cheaper and im not stuck with one width.
im just having questions if i want to stagger and go flush, with 15x7 up front, and 15x8 rear. or get 15x8 all the way around. and i also have to decide on the color

the bronze on red has been a long time "jdm" favorite of mine and just isn't really done very often.



the nickel is more pleasing to more people, and i really like how its both shiny but purposeful. really show and go

I like the Silver over the Bronze. Don't they also make a Hyper Black? That would look good as well.

And btw I will be even more envious of your Miata when you get these lol. I'd love to get a set for mine but can't justify spending money on that car for looks when it looks so bad elsewhere (hail damage, rust spots). Plus I don't even have enough power to break my 185s loose, lol. So I don't need the wider rubber either. Oh well, someday I'll get an NB and mod the hell out it.

Sorry for my rambling. I say get Silver or Black and skip the Bronze, but if you want to be unique and you like that look, then go for it.

ok so im ready to buy wheels and tires.
its either the nickel 15x8 949 racing 6ul, as shown in my first post. mated to those will either be 225/45/15 Hankook Ventus R-S3 as here http://www.discounttiredirect.com/direct/findTireDetail.do?pc=10966&ar=45&rd=15&cs=225
that package will cost 1240 and be the stickiest. but the treadwear sucks and then add on whatever it costs to mount and balance.
i can also mount 205/50/15 tires on it with good treadwear and performance characteristics but i have a bit of reservation with stretched tires.

the other option is a set of these

with a set of 205/50/15 tires

the price will cost about $1k flat.

the rpf1's are the standard man.....i have a pair i just refuse to put them on until 3 rains in may after the snow passes....also you might wnat to take a look at the new enkei funjins...they are the 2011 models they are replacng hte rpf1's possibly is what it is sounding like...they weigh about the same also think 1lb more which isnt a dramatic problem

Had Konig Helium Bronze on my 92 Sunburst (yellow) - loved them for the first two years then got bored and went back to silver.

My vote on Miatas will always be for the 6ULs of course. Plus 225s of a sticky tire will give you much better traction and handling than 205s of a less sticky, longer lasting tire. Yea they will wear out faster but how many miles do you drive it a year? They'll probably last a good 20k miles and next time you won't have to buy the rims too, just the tires, so it won't be as much.

I love my 6UL's and think that they are the best way to go simply for the weight (11 lbs), price and size options (also love the dual valve design). I went with the 15 X 8 all around and on my NA with a slightly lowered suspension, didn't have any clearance issues. I like the bronze a lot, but always seem you have to wait for them to be manufactured. I went with a Goodwin Racing special and got a 15X8 set with Toyo R1R 225/45/15 mounted, ballanced and included the hub centric rings for I think $1275. Not a bad deal when you company it to the Enki's or other light weight rims.

I like the Nickel. That is just from a looks aspect, I dont know anything about the preformance issues.
