Nice!!! Did you buy them from 949 or somewhere else and what are your thoughts on the tire size?

Most people don't know about 949 Racing and that they make rims for the 3's. I think they just came out with an 18" version.

i bought them from 949,
and im looking at the Hankook Ventus R-S3 as the best choice. but am affraid of treadwear. i am thinking that a 205 performance tire would work just as well for autocross/daily driven. plus the brigestone pontezza re-11's have a waranty on them.

Boo, get the better tires. So you'll have to buy 3 sets for every 2 sets you'd have to buy of the 205s. You'll enjoy them much more.

so i had the order for 225's set up in my head untill somone posts this in the msm forums

Image

same 8" wide wheel, 225/45 on one wheel and 195/50 on the other, and the 195 isnt stretched nearly as much as i pictured in my head and a 205 would be stretched less....

it depends on the brand of the tire. some are just wider than others due to different sidewall designs

yeah those are both the hankook ventures r-s3 tires, and i know performance tires ruin wider than allseason listed tires. so i know if i go with a 205 width i have to go with some high end summer tires to i have the width to deal with my power. if im going around a turn with my 205 series all seasons and i lay into the throttle i really have to fight for traction as is... theres a few onramps i cant get into at more than 50-60% otherwise i go sideways, granted i can control it but that is wasted speed

Get the 225s! 205s are pizza cutters lol. I hated having 205s on my SRT4. And the 215s on my Speed3 weren't enough either. Now I'm spinning 255s with the Mustang. :\

Yes I'm aware it's only a 2cm difference lol. But if the only thing holding you back is cost, they're not that much more are they?

so even though i wanted the 225's ol' dude at discount really hooked me up on a set of Falken Azeni RT-615k tires in 205/50/15 for 100 each plus threw in a 30k mile warranty on the tires. and said he doesnt care if i track them if they wear out he'll look the other way and honor the warranty there is almost no stretch on the tires, and on a 15" wheel they look meaty as hell. car looks completely different than before.

205's on a rwd miata grip ok. between the LSD and weight transfer of a rwd car in a good tire at least. i had cheap crappy allseason 700treadwear tires on it before and it took a really hard launch or gratuitous amounts of throttle in a turn to get them to spin im thinking with the sticky of the azenis ill be OK.
i know i will kick myself for not getting the 225's later. but the fact im getting out of the army at the end of the month i think my wallet will thank me about 6 months from now when the tires are still drivable.

Hehe, fair enough. And the Azenis is a great tire. I think you're right, having a better tire will make a bigger difference than 2 more centimeters of width. And 30k warranty is pretty good for a performance tire. Sounds like you got a pretty good deal.

I just ordered, and they should make it to town before the weekend... 15x9 TRMotorsports C3m (I'm cheap) and the 225 Kooks. I will test fit and do needed adjustments Friday-Saturday and take it down to the Springs for Sunday's race. Working with FM spring/shock package (I hear that is where I will fight the fit).
