Does Anyone Happen to Know

Postby bellalyssa » Tue Feb 22, 2011 9:14

If a Mazdaspeed3 rear bumper will fit on a 2004 Mazda3?

I like the styling of the Mazdaspeed3 rear a lot better than what I have and since my bumper is being replaced anyway I figure I'd at least look into getting it done the way I'd like.

Thank you :)

Not sure. I will do a slight google search. Best thing to do is to find someone that doesn't mind trying to fit their on yours.

I tried google. It looks like it will fit on an 07 mazda 3 but I'm not sure if they changed some lines between the 04s an the 07s. You may be more well versed than I in searching for things like that. My searches are generally more engine related.

I'm not really finding anything helpful. i found more that say yes than now but I still am not sure. Maybe one way to find a shop manual. I think they are the same book for both cars. If the body panels, rear bumper(The metal not the plastic fascia) , hatch, and tail lights are the are the same part #s for both my bet would be that it fits.

According to wiki only the front bumper design was changed and the use of LED tail lights. That doesn't help much on if a speed bumper will fit but lets you know what was changed from 2004 to 2007.

[SIZE="3"]
The 3 received a minor cosmetic facelift for the 2007 model year with minimal exterior, interior and mechanical changes. On base models, the black plastic at the top of the grille became body-coloured. The front fascia and bumper were changed with a floating foglight design and the lower air intake opening was reshaped to better resemble the typical "Mazda five-point face." All Mazda3 sedans and five-doors gained the same "Axela" clear-lens style rear tail-lights as the SP23 model. Which in 2007 Mazda brought out the Mazda Axela similar to the Mazda6 Atenza . In addition, the Grand Touring trim also featured LED brake lights. The LED brake lights were added to compete with the growing trend of higher-end vehicles using LED tail lamps for more visible light output. The range of alloy wheels were redesigned, featuring a 17 inch alloy wheel for the Grand Touring version. The rear fascia was slightly changed adding a notch on the bumper cover of the sedan. Several new exterior colors were added, phantom blue, a copper red metallic (April 2008), Aurora Blue and dark cherry. The Titanium Gray color was replaced with a darker Galaxy Gray color.

Someone on Mazda3forums says it will, you just have to modify the foam a bit to get it on.

If the bumpers are the same price should their insurance company cover it? Or do they only do OEM replacements?

They'll probably just give you the value of a non-oem replacement part, then you'd have to pay the difference... (state farm sent me a brochure while my car was in the shop, basically saying they use non OEM recycled parts and that If I want new I have to pay the difference) sumvabidgez

This insurance is called Hartford... They were prompt on calling me at first, but not calling me back. I've never had to deal with someone else's insurance before, only mine so I'm a bit lost as to what to do.

Could anyone possibly help with install if I do get a Speed3 bumper? I could save some money that way if they don't pay out direcly to the shop.

Im not sure. Depends on the Insurance company I guess. For me they payed for the price of a new one. But my car was like 2 months old so I think they had no choice. Stupid re in the DMV parking lot that backed into me.

Just make sure they sign the check to you not to the shop. Then use that money to help pay for one. Maybe call up some salvage yards and see if there is one locally.

And yes I can help with install. I doubt they will charge you. We can install before you take it into the shop. They will have to take it off anyway so if it's already on why charge for having to put it back? Does that make sense?

Oh and I hate no name insurances even though that's what I carry for myself. They are a pain to work with. Glad I have the blue 8 on a "name brand" insurance comp. with full coverage.

Can I request/insist they sign it over to me? What justification can I use to make them do this?

They haven't even called me back yet. I'm about to give the guy another call. He wants to "ask me a few more questions about what happened." Whatever that means.

Essentially, I was pulling out of a parking spot, had my car stopped and was putting it into first when the guy pulled out perpendicular to my car and scraped the entire right side of his car on my rear bumper. He got out, apologied, we exchanged information and went on our way.

BTW, apparently police don't come to parking lot accidents because it is private property. I did not know this.

Yeah same thing the dispatcher told me. I made the lady drive with me to the station and make a report. Did you make a report? The dispatcher told me where the nearest station was.

And when the ask if you know what shop you want to take it to tell them at the moment you are not sure and you are deciding between 2 different shops. When they here that they "should," "Ok we will make the check out to you and when you decide just sign that over to the shop." It should work something like that.

link for an OE replacment speed bumber. Not sure if you wan origanal OEM part.

http://www.autopartswarehouse.com/search/?N=0&Nr=AND(wpn_tl_name:Auto+Body+Parts+%26+Mirrors,wpn_scat_name:Bumper+Cover,wpn_cat_name:Bumpers+%26+Components)

I'm not finding any in auto salvage yards. But I would call one and have them put a wire out for one. I'd hate for you to buy it and not fit. So if you can find one locally hopefully they will let you test it out.

Try. http://jbautocrusher.com/ They are here in Denver.

As far as the check goes...
It should be made out to you. You should be able to get three quotes from the "shops you trust" to do the work. They should give you a payment for repairs baised on those quotes. The adjuster is there to make sure they are not paying for damages or other repairs not related to THAT claim. What you do with the money is up to you. Do you ever notice the hail damaged cars around town? Those folks wanted the money for other things rather than fixing a hail damaged point A to B transportaion device. Those shops can be the highest priced shops in town. If you choose to use a shop other than the quoted ones, you will be on the hook for additional costs. It is completely legal for you to take the check and have "your brother" fix the car as a favor. Get a quote from the body shops at Ferrari and Mercedes and see what they would charge. A good body shop will listen to what you want, and be willing to work with you on other than stock repairs.
It has been a long time since I've turned anything in for insurance, but this is they way things go. It was not your idea to be in an accident with THEIR insured that day!
