How does it look?

Postby mog1017 » Thu Apr 28, 2011 9:14

It's far from done, and it needs quite a little bit of work, including paint, but what do you think about the new bumper?

Looks like you're off to a great start! Can't wait to see the finished result!

Looks like a good fit. Did you decide to wait and get an authentic MazdaSpeed bumper? Congrats and hurry and get some Silver on that.

Edit - Is that already painted Nordic Green?

I really like the MS bumper for the 8, I think it looks so much better than the stock bumper. You need some sideskirts though. Are you getting any and/or have you chosen any?

I have some mint blue replicas in my laundry room that I am debating putting on. They just need a good sanding and painting. Honestly, the more I look at my irl the more I like it like this. I think I might paint the side skirts black too. I need to do a mockup first and see how the mintblue sides would look with the ms bumper.

And GR-8, I don't think it is authentic. It took me about 4-5 hours with a dremel fitting it. It still has a lot of imperfections but I might leave it for a while at least. I think it is pfrp. Seems like plastic on the outside but you can see some fibers on the inside. Anyway, its a lot more flexible than the old mint blue fiberglass bumper I had. I'm kinda looking forward to showing it off saturday at the movie.

BTW GR-8, it is black. but nice black with shiny specs in it. :)

Oh and the miata next to it is mine too. Here is a pic of why I haven't posted anything about it though. I'm kinda embarrased.
It looks worse in person I think.

MS is my favorite front end for the 8 (The MS rear, not so much). Throw some side skirts on there and it'll look great. Looking forward to seeing the finished product.

The bumper looks good. Are you going to show it off tonight?

That miata doesn't look all that bad.

Where tonight? And the miata bumper looks worse in person, that's why I didn't take it over to Eric's for the install day. I am going to get a bumper for it, but I am still trying to find someone that knows how to prep it so I can learn to do that and then take it to a paint shop.

I see the stock Miata bumper gets wavy over time too. That's a fairly common problem with darker colored FDs. Mine was the same color as your Miata and my bumper did that.

Really? I was wondering what in the heck could make the bumper do that. It is so weird having the waves go side to side. I think I am going to get a wizdom bumper for the miata.

Yeah, supposedly it's from the heat but I can't confirm that, it's just what I was told.

My FD has a slight wave in the front bumper, not that bad though.

I told you tonight, and I figure I should post for others to see :p

Your car actually looks really awesome with the bumper black. I think side skirts and a rear bumper in black could actually look really good. I think you should leave it black :)
