So, after much debating about how to proceed with getting Sirius and my iPod hooked up in my 3, I decided I liked how clean the stock stereo is with the steering wheel controls and LCD display and all that. For that reason, I decided to look into how to get an iPod integration kit and Sirius kit installed in there. Come to find out, Mazda changed up a few things for the 08.5 stereo.

Through searching the web, I found Med Center Mazda, who has a few items listed specifically for the 2008.5 stereo (which are linked below), making me wonder if the stereo setup changed, so I shot them an email.

http://www.mazdaparts.org/mazda-ipod-with-sirius-radio.html

According to Marshall English of Med Center Mazda, there is a way to have an iPod integration module, Sirius module and the AUX jack all hooked up to the same stereo without the use of a Switching Box. Here is the latest email:

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div>
Elliott,
Our information is that the 08.5 does not use the same set up and thus you do not need the switching box.
Mazda offers a harness kit for the IPOD unit on the 08.5 for use with the aux jack.
We include this kit with our ipod kit.

So, the 2008.5 Mazda 3's can use either iPod integration kit 4 or 5 from the above list, and number 5 makes me think that it can be used with the AUX Jack and Sirius set up (as well as Bluetooth?). I posted this on mazda3forums.com as well, trying to get some concrete evidence that this whole thing will work. Here is the link:

From that thread, it all sounds pretty new, like Mazda just released these part numbers and such, so I don't know if I will find much, but have you guys heard anything?

nope, read online that someone bought a mazda 3 GT and had bluetooth handsfree setup (possible built into GPS?)..... I cannot locate anything on the site though...that would be an immediate buy for me if its available..

Yeah, that would be pretty cool. Especially if you could get Sirius, the iPod and the Bluetooth as #5 in that list seems to suggest, that would be downright bitchin!

Really? Yeah, this is why I want some concrete evidence either way before I start buying stuff, I am getting conflicting info... But in any case, thanks for checking with your install guys and everything for me.

I HAVE THE ANSWER, FOR SURE!!!!
No switching box for 2008.5 new radio. You do need the installation harness. The harness will run you $108 and the switching box was only $142. So not a huge savings but everything counts. The email first posted is correct. Let me know if you want one.

In the email it states:

"1 to retain function of AUX Jack, Switching Box (C9F1-V6-261) is required"

Looks like a box is needed if you want the AUX jack to work. Unless I'm missing something....

You are missing the production dates...read it again. You do not need the switching box if your Mazda3 or Speed3 was produced on or after 1/1/08. Here it is again...the key parts are now bold. I am happy to show you the information from MazdaUSA if you would like to stop in but I can not post it. Sorry.

Yeah, the first line means that for the Mazda3 built after 1/1/08, numbers 4 and 5 apply. So number 1 doesn't affect it... at least that is how I understood it.
