For awhile, alot of German cars (Porsches particularly) didn't have cupholders. Partly because Germans just don't drink and drive like Americans. And partly because you shouldn't be distracted from the pleasure of driving by needless things like drinks while you're cruising the Autobahn at 150 mph.

Soooooooooo, this little project will be delayed. My 6 disc changer doesn't arrive until Monday, so I'll just do it the following weekend. The plan now is:

Paint/clear center console trim pieces body color.
Create storage bin...get rid of goofy cup holders.
Install new changer.

My Josh suggested drimmeling out the cup holders and putting new plastic in it's place. But I personally think thats more trouble then what it is worth.. might be something to think about though I guess.

That was exactly the route I was thinking of going with it.

Hmm, the small radius at the right/front of the box (where the adjustment for the parking brake is) will make this more interesting than I thought. Oh well, I'll still chug on through. The main reason for me doing this is still to have a hidden place to put the ECON controller...although I should get measurements for that unit before I do too much.

Measureing would be a good place to start before you get too happy and find that all your hard work wont hide the ECON controller.

Just got the dimensions, and it'll fit just fine right where I want it to. Yeah! Although remeasuring, the ECON might go in the ashtray.

Choices. Choices. I would love to check it out once you have it complete. As for the cup holders... The way i see it, if you go anywhere and get something to drink, where are you going to put it? However, if you have a friend along for the ride, DONE! They can hold it. If they didn't want to hold it, they should have driven instead.

All you need to really worry about is when you are alone and thirsty. Choices. Choices.
