You're only speeding for 10 seconds but they got you. Or sometimes you're all by yourself on the highway and not watching your speed closely and get nailed not even realizing you were speeding. The detector just helps keep you aware of your surroundings.

Exactly- couldn't have said it better myself:)

1 speeding ticket lol. I used to average 1 a year for a long time and almost lost my license when I was 20 because I got two speeding tickets and a careless driving (accident) in the same year. My last actual speeding ticket was back in 2005 I think. I did get a "too fast for conditions" last Oct/Nov for going 5 over. But yea I don't speed much anymore either except in short bursts.

"Officer, I was merely heavily accelerating in a short burst."

I figured I could justify such a purchase for less than $150...
But maybe I'll just stick to using no detector:huh:

I'm going to have a lot bigger problems than a speeding ticket if I get caught in one of those short bursts lol.

I honestly don't speed very often. I don't go around doing 10-15 over everywhere I go. But over the course of the last 5 years since I bought my $300 Escort Passport 8500 X50 it has paid for itself many times over just letting me know a cop is around when I'm frustrated with other drivers and want to just mash the gas and fly around them, or those times when I'm just not paying attention to my speed.

I need to do some more research. Do the more expensive one's (like yours) read different kinds of radar signals (or whatever they're called), than say, a cheaper one?

I'm not all techy. I just want something to beep and give me a fair warning-

Here's a review on the cheaper Whistler. Looks like it does pretty well, especially on Ka, which in my experience is what most Colorado cops use, at least in the Colorado Springs and DTC areas and I-25 in between. Some laser, some K, some X, but mostly Ka, at which the Whistler excels according to this review.

But to answer your question, yes the Whistler does read the different bands.

I don't remember the last time an X band alert was a cop and not an automatic door. Ka on the other hand is ALWAYS a cop.

Not to be a downer, but unless you get a top-of-the-line detector, all a bargain level detector will do is tell you when you're getting a ticket. The range they have isn't far enough to warn you in advance to slow down.

I had an Escort Solo 2 (wireless detector) and it was fantastic, saved my *** a bunch of times. And being wireless it was nice...but it went through 2 or 4 AA batteries (can't remember how many it took...) about every 3 weeks, which sucked.

I want the Escort 9500xi. Awesome GPS detector, can pick up radar from MILES out. Also is excellent at blocking false alerts. Just don't leave it out in the sun when you park, or it can melt haha. The 9500xi is better than the V1, too, BTW.

So I would really say, either save your $150 towards a better detector, or just not get one. Again, not trying to be a downer, but I would hate to see you waste your money.
