Knowing Mazda...I would say the 3 is no different from that of the 6. The head unit contains all the hardware that controls the display, air con and a few other bits an pieces I believe. They certainly don't make it easy (or cheap) for us to add after market heads...basically, a metra kit (or the hardware from a metra kit) is needed.
Has anyone done this on their MS3? This was a pain on the 6....the dash had to be custom made to fit a double din unit.[/b]

so it is easier than the 6 eh?
for the regular mazda 3, (and i would think the MS3 is no different) There is a dash kit that someone makes. (i know best buy carries it.) It should be extremly easy change. the only thing i dont know about would be the climate controls.

As Josh said...I went to some guys I know at car toys. As far as I know, I am the only one who has attempted my setup.
If you want an after market head unit, you can do one of two things. Go with the dash kit (metra kit), but risk it looking like a pos. The finish on those things are really bad...nasty. Or you can take all the hardware from the metra kit and mate it to your existing face plate, so that you can now have a double din, or a single head unit installed and keep your current look. This is of course not cheap...but worth it in my opinion.
Lee,
where did you have your stuff done or did you do it yourself?[/b]

Im thinking double din....just because i like the look better. I dont want to end up making it look bad....so i might go talk with car toys (although i think theyre a little pricy).

Hopefully it starts and ends with a deck
what are you thinking of doing Randy? Just curious, it starts with just the deck.....
given the cost to do an after market deck in my 6, I opted to keep the deck stock.[/b]

They are no pricier (is that actually a word...lol) than anyone else. You main advantage is that they know what they are doing with the Mazdas.
If you go to the car toys in Park Meadows, ask for Jeremy, show him a CMZC card (or tell him your from CMZC), he will give you a discount.
