Yeah. East is worse than West. Best to not travel alone at night. I only heard of one hooker being killed last month. Down the street from the new place.
But yeah there are some cool places around to take pics.
Edit: Explore google maps a little from my link That place looks like a good spot. Perhaps you can catch a train going by or just use that old worn fence. Look around there from about I-25 to Kalamath Colfax to Alameda. It's a small industrialish area. Should find something. If I weren't busy I'd come out and help find/guide you to spots. There is a power plant near there and Invesco Field. Pepsi Center and Elitche Gardens.

red rox is always nice if you've never been,
springs--> garden of the gods
alamosa--> great sand dunes

20th and i25 has that commons park and skate park it's a nice area. Also spear and i25 has good sights of downtown denver.
