The engine looks like it was modded via Ebay

Trading an Rx-8 for an Rx-7 eh? If he thinks he's going to get a TT or Z3 for that, he's insane.

It was also listed on Ebay. His idle was shaky, which he blamed on a vacuum leak, but it could also indicate a blown motor. I wouldn't buy it without a compression test.

FD's are fineky, you can't just throw parts at them, they need to be tuned, there is only so much the stock ECU can handle

It doesn't look all too bad to me, but I would get the compression tested first. The fluctuating idle could be the TPS setting is wrong too, but I'd get the compression test regardless. If you know how to do it, you can get a cheap tester from Harbor Freight for about $7 and do it yourself. I'd check it out in person and see what the story is.

I wouldn't say the engine bay was modified by eBay exactly haha. It looks like it has an aftermarket SMIC, and the red piping is just the stock IC piping painted red. The intake piping isn't anything I've seen before, but it's not bad.

It's worth a shot man. There are alot of nicely priced FDs these days. See if you can get a full mod list from the guy and put it on here so I can tell you what else to look for.
