Man, I was sold until I saw the speedo only goes up to 45. I need one that reads at least 70. So close to sold.

Out of curiosity how fast do the gears go on that thing? Like in top gear at what speed are you really no longer getting any resistance at all and gravity is doing more work than you are.

Thanks, if you're serious, I am flexible on the price, especially for CMZC members.

I'm not really sure, to be completely honest I'm not that serious of a biker, so I can't "max" this bike at all. I've had it up to around 30mph in top gear downhill, but this bike isn't as much about speed but off roading and toughness.

30mph downhill is still good. I bought a mountain bike from Wal-Mart (yea yea piece of crap I know but I'm just getting started) and about 20mph downhill and that's about as fast as it will go from pedaling. I've had it up to ~23mph (gps) but wasn't pedaling at that point.

It can all be calculated based on an assumed cadence of a novice biker. Say they maintain a cadence of 50 revolutions per minute (thats not very quick at all), If you have a 44 tooth max front ring, that front gear is also turning at 44 revs per minute, and isnce it is a mid-line 29er, I'm guessing the 44 tooth ring would be turning a 12tooth cog. The 12 tooth cog will revolve x times for each revolution of the 44 tooth ring, and since we are only looking at how much the rider is applying for speed, then the wheel of the 29er can vbe assumed to revolve at the same rate as the 12 tooth cog. Also assuming no loss of friction, then for each revolution of the wheel, the tire would travel (2*pi*r=2r=diameter so pi*d=(29+ tire sidewall)*pi. Just need to approximate the dimensions of the gears. My guess is 1.5" radius for rear cog and 3.75" radius of front ring (may be 4").

Nice looking bike, good luck on the sale!

Just had to comment that Shadow's sig seems funny to me, seeing it in a thread about a 29er.

Beat me to it. I was going to present the same, easy to follow, equation.
