I picked up my RX-7 in Cape Girardeau, Missouri in early January 1979 and I have owned it ever since. I was wondering if there is anyone out there who has owned one for longer than that. I know there may be a few older RX-7s, but how many are still with their original owner after all these years?

What?! I lived in Cape from 1990 - 1996. My Mom still lives there and I still call it home. I go back all the time. Are you from there? I graduated HS there.

I've only owned my 7 since 2004, so I think you have me beat lol.

When I sold my 79 Rx-7, a guy called who is the original owner of the first Rx-7 sold in Colorado.

He bought it from the dealer with 7K on it and still has it. (I verified this with a guy who worked at the dealer then and remembered the car.)

Now he's restoring it. He had a couple of other very cool cars, too, including something like a 1925 Rolls-Royce.

But January, 1979? I bet 2/3 of the folks on this forum weren't born yet!

It's great you still have your car. Congratulations!

There is a guy here in town, a retired AF officer, that bought the 3rd RX-7 sold in town and he still has it. He's not on here though, I think he's in his 70s or 80s. He comes to the meets sometimes though, when I call and invite him haha. I saw him driving on Peterson and I chased him down as we were walking into the BX haha. He's a really cool guy and I love his stories haha.

No, I am not from Cape Girardeau. I was living in Houston at the time, and the dealers were demanding - and getting - up to $14,000 for RX-7s. A friend put me in touch with Weiser Motors in Cape Girardeau, who sold me the car for list price. I picked it up on the way home from an overseas trip via New York and St. Louis, and drove it home to Houston. I had never even test driven an RX-7, but figured that I could sell it for more than I paid for it if I did not like it. Obviously I did like it, as I still have it.

I don't think I'll ever keep a car that long. I get bored too quickly. And yea, I wasn't born for another 4 months after that, lol.
