I always carry jumper cables in my car anyway. Good thing I do or Stealth's MS6 might still be at Red Rocks. :D

I would also recommend the Westco Miata battery: http://www.batterymart.com/p-12v-mazda-miata-battery.html?utm_source=Google&utm_medium=Base&utm_campaign=ComparisonShopping

It's an OEM spec battery so it's good quality (not Optima but up there), and since it's for a Miata it's pretty small. It's a popular swap for FD's since you don't have to sacrifice CCA's, it still pumps out 330CCA at 0*F. It weights about 20lbs and is only $80 bucks.

Stay away from Braille Batteries. A friend of mine in Phoenix had one and it was nothing but trouble. Left him stranded plenty of times. It got to the point where he had to disconnect the negative battery terminal if the car was going to sit for more than 4 hours..ya, that bad.

And in case you think he got a bad apple, he had it swapped, TWICE (!), for warranty replacements, with then same results.

I would get an Oddesy PC680. But just remember, small, lightweight batteries will never hold a charge as well as a larger group 51 battery or an Optima. So carry jumper cables!

26lbs for a great battery is not heavy.

They don't have a 50lb Red top battery in their entire lineup.

Same thing happened to me. I got what they SWEAR is the right battery, but it doesn't fit exactly right and I've had to monkey-rig a method of holding it still in the engine bay.

And the same holds true for Advanced Auto, O'Reilly, and even the Wal-Mart batteries for my car -- all exactly the same size/shape, and not quite right.

I didn't see any 12v battery that was 26lbs....

I think those numbers are optimistic. Perhaps I was fluffing the 50lbs number, but it's close. At least 40lbs, I'll put my Redtop on the scale if I have to. That site also lists the Bluetop (Marine grade) battery as 38lbs, which is total BS. A friend of mine had the Bluetop and we actually weighed it- it was 56lbs!

This isn't a debate about the quality of Optima batteries- they are the best, that's why I have one in my FD to make sure I don't get left stranded. I can leave the car sitting in the garage for 4 weeks and the battery looses maybe a tenth of a volt, even in heat or cold. So, I'm not debating about the performance of Optima's.

But, he's asking about lightweight batteries, which let's be honest, Optima's are not, and that's not what they're made for. For a battery to be lightweight it must be under 20lbs.
