That may be, but a Honda owner is comparing his HP per liter to a lawn mower. I'm comparing a ~340hp FD HP per liter to a McLaren. Yep, Howard Coleman on 7club does these figures all day long. And a stock FD has more HP per liter than, IIRC, a Vette ZR1.

That's weird, I've never seen a Honda run on only 3 pistons, even then, it's still 3/4 of the pistons there lol. When Simon blew his engine a couple years ago, I think he had one apex seal left in the whole engine. We poured some ATF in there and push started it, and as long as he kept it above 1500rpm it would stay running.
Actually I think an N/A rotary might still win in that HP per liter argument. I'd have to run the numbers though to be sure.
And I think a rotary is a little more forgiving with water getting in than a piston engine. My buddy in NC swapped an LS1 into his FD and blew that engine not long after by sucking water in and sending a rod through the side. Never seen that happen on a rotary lol. As a matter of fact I PURPOSELY shoot water into my engine lol. At the very most you might blow the apex seals, depending on which ones you're using.

Some people don't buy the car because they are fans of the rotory. Many buy the car because they are fans of the actual car. Me being one. If you would rather burn your car than put a V8 in it, that's absolutely fantastic. Do whatever the hell you want. Its your car. Just don't proceed to cast judgement because everyone doesn't share the same opinion.
I don't have a problem with people that love the car for just the car itself and not the engine. What I DO have a problem with is people making judgements on an engine they know nothing about and claiming that another type of engine is so much better when they have no personal experience to base it on. That's when I get upset. Not that you've ever done that, I'm just saying.

That may be, but I can rebuild my own engine and do pretty much anything else to the car myself, and I'd also much rather have my car on jackstands for years on end than have any engine other than a rotary under the hood. To me, the rotary is the soul of the RX-7, but I guess that's just me.
Besides...
Zico's had nothing to do with the engine, his was a wiring issue (just like most problems with rotaries, they usually have nothing to do with the engine itself, it's the weak support structure for it.)
Simon's (two years ago when it blew) had to do with him upping the boost too much and not tuning it for the increased boost, same that would happen to a piston engine.
Mine...still not sure why it wouldn't run other than the rear bearing, and I'm guessing that's just my fault for not getting a new one when I built it.

:lol::D
hmmm.... i didnt mean for the thread to turn into another all out rotary vs piston debate. I love the rotary for what it is and for the amazing things it accomplished out of a fun sized package. For what I wanted to acheive the v8 was a smarter way to go. Ive known tons of people with rotaries that, reliability wise, rival some hondas; but what I want the car to do overall I cant get with a rotary. Eventually ill get another one, 10th anniversary t2, and restore it to its 80's glory with the o.e. rotary intact alive and well. Either way this dosent need to be a million page long debate about rotary vs. piston. It coulda been worse... I coulda got a civic... (cringe)
