How about a turbo RX8? Just a suggestion. People are selling them for 5-8k. Buy a TK for a few grand and there you go. ;)

Apparently her throttle stuck open going down the hill. She was about to hit the car in front of her so she tried to dodge onto the shoulder and slammed on her brakes. I think she caught a tire on the edge of the asphalt and that spun her. Not sure what the speeds involved were, but I was doing highway speeds and I suspect she was doing a little better than that.

Re: FR-S, I think I'd actually like one. I'm a fan of well balanced cars that you can flog at legal speeds. I'd have to amputate my son's legs at the knees to fit him in the back, though. Re: RX-8, the thought crossed my mind, but they've got the same issue as the FR-S/BRZ. I've been looking at Evos and the cost is an issue. Everything in my price range (15-20k) is hammered or high mileage. I'm contemplating a TDI Golf. I like torque, and they can be chipped to make about 25% more than stock with minimal supporting mods.

I've never understand the people that say that their throttle was stuck then cause an accident. Put the thing in neutral and then brake... slowly.
I'm sorry for your loss. But now you get to buy a new toy. :)

In all fairness you wouldn't have to amputate your kids legs as much in the RX-8. ;) Been searching around for used cars for my sister and she really wants a WRX hatch or Speed 3 or something similar. But she wants an auto. Also the price is pretty up there for a decent used one.

+2. I suspect panic and fear interrupt coherent thought. That had to be scary as heck, especially on that road. Test drove a TDI today. It's like driving a locomotive. Very solid, pulls like heck. Much nicer interior than my MS3 had, but I'd miss the very quick nature of the Mazda. Batman, thanks for the condolences. I'm pretty OK with it, since I'm a car whore. I get bored with my cars after a couple of years, so it was due for replacement.

Picked up a 2012 Golf TDI yesterday. Emich cut me a good deal and took really good care of us. Looking forward to the entertaining combination of 45mpg and 236 ft/lbs of torque. Suck that, Prius.

Pretty stoked, might need black or graphite wheels.

Justin wrote:Given price for performance, not a downgrade in my book. The WRX was a 2002, and a total beater (which had its perks). The good news is that so far the insurance company is offering me $2500 more than I paid for it. My 2008 MS3 pulled way, way harder at street RPM. I initally looked for a WRX, but ones with less than 50k miles are around $22k. A MS3 with 50k miles is usually $18k or so. I'd miss the AWD, but I like the 4 grand more.

If you end up getting another subie, pm me if you need parts. I work for Subaru direct. Not a dealership but the actual parts distribution. I think we get 60% off on parts, sometimes more depending on what it is. LMK

Thanks! Its been pretty fun so far. I tried to get mOOse to see whose car pulled harder at 1700 rpm, but all he did was mutter about it having to be uphill in the snow....

hey now... I agreed... as long as we can do a 6k-7k pull too :D

And after that, a straight run 0-60. 4.5 sec sprint vs your 8.5 sec sprint ;)

How about a weighted system that multiplies 0-60 times with mileage over that quarter?
