Which one to get?

So Im thinking about getting a new intake,, my question is though.. should I get CAI (cold air intake) or SRI (short ram intake) I know they both have their pros and cons but I have been reading that SRI have more of a response to them and in some cases put out more HP then the CAI,, but then somewhere else I read the oppisite and its the CAI that does that.. So Im kinda at a lose here.. Also regards to acutally buying one. Is it best to stick with the expenisive name brands or would the cheaper ones work aslong as you had a good name brand filter in it?

IMO CAI would be best. Colder air is better. I would go with something name brand. Something where the MAF is in the stock position.

well I do wanna get something where the MAF is where its suppose to be, thats a forsure,, but as far as the CAI and all, I have been reading that since its down low and in the DEAD AIR area as some have put it, it doesnt really do much more then the SRI would, and since the SRI is pretty much right behind the raditator its still getting cold air on it to.. And the SRI has shorter tubing which helps aswell.. Damn theres just to many two sided stories to this.. I guess its all about personal opinions then.. and as far as name brand goes.. why cant I just buy a cheap kit that has the same exact tubing as the expenisive ones but then buy a good expensive airfilter? cause the cheap kits are like $30-$40 and the air filter is like $40-$50.. so total it would be around $100 for it.. to where if I get a name brand like the Mazdaspeed CAI its around $240

If the plumbing is the same it really shouldn't matter. If the filter is behind the radiator it's getting hot air though. Whatever kit you get I would route it to the best spot possible. Never heard of dead air though. If the filter is sucking up the dead air well live air must be coming from somewhere or else you wouldn't get a kabooom and could't go anywhere.

LOL I guess what I meant by dead air is, down in the wheel well area where the filter sits, theres not much air moving around in that area as opposed to ontop where there is air coming through the front vents and all..

and yes, as far as the plumbing goes,, I think its all the same, as long as its the 2.75" tubing and the MAF sits in the same spot then I see no point in spending the money to have a Mazdaspeed sticker slaped on the tube when I could go cheap and get a cheap set with the same tubing and just spend the extra money on a good AEM dry filter..

True. But I would re-reout to the front of the radiator or somewhere where cooler air is flowing. I've heard somewhere that the shorter plumbing will increase the torque more and longer increases the HP. Not sure how true that is. I'm not expert so where are they. Hurry and chime in.

lol get the SRI less to worry about seriously. No there isn't more response or anything or really any difference. Just piece of mind not having to worry about anything when it rains.

Plus SRI = cheaper.

LOL true,, anyways,, heres the one I was talking about that is the cheap one. intake Its got the same tubing ( or so I have heard) that the name brands such as AEM and MazdaSpeed intakes have but its a hella lot cheaper... they just recommend to use a better filter such as this one.. filter

Other thing about it to is, I dont wanna be throwing CEL every other day to because of installing a new intake.. thats one main reason why I havent done this mod yet..

Get the short ram and build a dam or something to direct cool air to the filter. I know that Revi makes a dam for the 8 that I might invest in since my filter will be going back into the engine bay.

I'd go with a seller that offers returns though just in case you get toyed with. The AEM Dryflow Filter is the best IMO. Josh is right about the CAI and SRI differences. It's all a matter of personal preference and what's being sold. I prefer CAIs just because of the oldage: the colder the air, the better.
