Also keep in mind that you have a built in safety factor with the altitude. Upping the boost will most likely take some time off the clock for the snail, but we are already close to 40whp lower up here than at sea level, so drivetrain parts and such should be good to go.

Didn't even think of that. So the car is essentially back to "stock" now ;-/

Yea, $700 is a complete ripoff. Everything Rich sold/still trying was way overpirced. Sorry Rich, but it's true.

i wouldnt say overpriced in a normal economy.... the standback and the pnp retails for 1095.00, $700 would normally be a pretty good deal for that piece... but as Ive seen in the last month, as well as Troy Im sure too.... the economy sucks ballz right now, and if you want to get rid of parts fast, you've gotta give a good price.. I just dont think Rich is in any big hurry to sell his parts, thats all.

Agreed, drivetrain and block should be solid... the turbo is the problem, along with attached culprits... The hunk of metal Mazda calls an intercooler causes the stock K04 to lose 3-4psi in efficiency as well... Stock boost psi on a speed motor is 15.6psi. We usually see 11-12psi here at altitude. Blowing anything more than 18psi thru that little turbo is asking for trouble, because in reality, up here, to create 18psi, youre asking for 21-22psi to be produced out of that little thing, and believe me, thats pushing the edge when stock k04's blow up.. ;) Ive got the photos to prove it.

Bottom line, yea, theres a safety factor here at altitude, unless you look at the turbo side of things.. keep it safe, especially until you get a tune, and once you realize that 18psi isnt enough, get a new turbo BEFORE you blow up that little k04..

such good words of wisdom haha. So what would you call safe psi out of a K04 with a 3.5" ets intercooler?

"Safe" is such an unsafe word... Unfortunately, I dont have any faith in the stock k04 turbos.. Id like to say youd be fine on 17-18psi always, but that turbo gets so damn hot so fast, its a gamble past stock settings, unfortunately..

I ran 21psi in my k04 for a good 4 months before it blew up, so you may be able to use that as a "guide" so to speak...

roll the dice, and pay to play... lol, hows that for words of wisdom.. ;)

Standbacks with PNP harness go for ~$500 regularly on mazdaspeedforums.org. I've seen several threads where people tried to start them higher and they always end up dropping the price until it gets to about $500 when it sells. The Cobb AP is $695 new and is ready to go. Hopefully I can find one used but if not, I'll come out about the same as with the CP-E except I'll also have a custom tune. $695 + $350 tune.
