It should be on the door jam of the driver door, and its on the windshield, but sounds like your windshield has been replaced, as the "view strip" location is different on the speeds than regular 6's.

Also on your insurance card, and registration card. Not sure if they want those in conjunction with the car having it stamped. But as Tbot stated, it's also on the driver door jamb.

yeah they said at the emissions place that it had to be stamped on the car. I have the sticker on the door jam and my title and everything with my VIN number, but thats not good enough for them! so the only other place is on the engine block somewhere, but I cant find the VIN anywhere under the hood...

thats freakin crazy!!! Its stamped on the windshield, I'll take pictures when I leave tonight of where it actually is so u can compare it to yours.

why the hell won't they accept the door jam?!?!? that doesn't make sense...I'd go to a different emissions place.

I was thinking about doing that! But I doubt another emissions place would be any different. My car does not have it on the windshield though, they said my windshield must have been replaced and the VIN number does not line up with the rectangle as it should :(

not to be a stickler or anything....but shouldnt it be printed on the dash, not the windshield? the windshield should only have a looking strip like you said, but there should still be a plate with the VIN riveted to the dash.

In the lower-left corner (driver's side lower corner) of the windshield on mine, there's a rectangular window in the dark strip of the glass. Through that, you can see the VIN code on a metal plate in the dash. That is supposed to be the official VIN stamp for the car. It's very difficult to see without a flashlight, and hard as hell to read. Other than that, I don't know if there's even another one.

A stamp on the engine would only be valid on a car with its original engine. What if one had blown and had its engine replaced?

Sounds like the people doing your emissions are clueless.

It is printed on the dash, but MS6's have their VIN in a different location than regular Mazda6's, so it sounds like his windshield was replaced at some point with a regular 6 windshield and not an MS6 windshield, thus the "window" in the windshield will not lineup so you can not see the VIN.

I'm not positive on the MS6, but I know they sometimes stamp the VIN under the hood, near the passenger side just under the windshield wiper area, still under the hood. I know my RX-8 had this and most of my other cars had this as well.

Yes there SHOULD be, but I have looked and i cannot find it anywhere. The stuff about my windshield was all correct though- I cant read the VIN on the dash through the rectangle probably because my window was replaced. I go to school in washington though so I am thinking about just trying to register it up there, maybe they wont be so crazy about VIN #'s

I know that RX-8s have it ghosted into the Windsheild. If the window gets foggy and in the right light you can see it.

Have you checked on the Firewall in the engine bay? I noticed that my 8 had the VIN stamped in there. Top center of the firewall.
