Thoughts on that Subaru Toyota Thing

something that I didn't think about last night that would almost be a necessity is a stand-alone capable abs and body electronics module(s). AND an unlocked engine ecu. these things would enable quick and easy engine swaps without upsetting the rest of the vehicle. I don't know how possible that would be due to laws now that all vehicles must have tcs and abs from the factory. I guess it depends on how multiplexed it is into the rest of the vehicle

Here's my guess: Toyota currently has no turbocharged cars. Subaru does. There's also significant room between hood/engine for a TMI. I'd say for the sake of a future turbocharged model, that's why they've gone with the flat 4. Keep engineering costs down compared to a clean sheet I-4/turbo set up from Toyota.
Of course that's just me pulling shit out of the air.

So I saw these 2 at the auto show yesterday. Subaru had theirs and Scion had theirs. Both in the same color. Both completely identical accept for badges.
I'm still really confused as to why they would both sell the same car in the same market. I'm just curious to see which dealers sell more of them, Scion or Subaru.
If they turbo charged the engine and gave it about 250 whp it would definitely cut into the sales of the WRX IMHO.
After the show I have 3 (4) new fun, nice-looking cars I want. Turbo charged Veloster when it's out (in that sweet blue they had), The Genesis Coupe and the FR-S (BRZ).
I imagine the aftermarket for the FR-S (BRZ) will explode and there will after market turbo kits in no time.
Side thouhgt: Is BRZ short for Breeze?

x2, though how much will depend on how well it sells.

I read that Toyota is only importing 6,000 of the first years therefore these cars will carry a premium price. If I overpaid for a brand new car I wouldn't want to be the test bed for a turbo kit

I just read they are using Aisin built transmissions. Hope they hold up unlike the RX-8.

I read the deal was Toyota got Subaru's All Wheel Drive technology and Subaru got Toyota's hybrid technology. So, while I like the car on paper, I'm confused about why it exists. Maybe they'll add a hybrid model? AWD? WRXish turbo and AWD?
LOVED Whizbang's and Silwyrm's comments in posts# 24 and #25. Right on!
To me, power levels in today's cars are ridiculous and silly. An Accord - family sedan - with 268hp? Um, why? Heck, half the reason I go to a racetrack is it's the only road that isn't full of inattentive texters. What use is any performance capability on a packed road?

So For those of you who feel the car is under powered.

With an aftermarket company like GReddy involved in building Scions new drift car, who can doubt they will have various turbo packages available soon based on what they did in this car. Wish I had the money for one, maybe if I win the 500 million dollar lottery I can buy a bunch to turn into race cars

I can slap an aftermarket turbo on a Civic too but that doesn't make it a performance car. Not many people are going to want to have to spend several thousand on aftermarket parts right out of the gate, not to mention throwing away your warranty and boosting a brand new engine of which know one knows what kind of power it can handle before it starts throwing rods.
Of course there will be people that do it just like there are pioneer modders on any other platform. I'm just saying the car would be more popular if it wasn't basically a RWD Civic Si. I will say that it looks a hell of a lot better than a Civic though, and will handle better than one obviously because of the drivetrain setup.
