Hell YES! I tried to get a group of 8 together. But since 6 of us were college students we couldn't get either the funds or the ball rolling. Next year i want to participate badly.

But yes, i would love to go watch.

Somewhere out there's there's an article on out of pocket expenses for fielding a team, beyond the $500 car... I'll see if I can round it up for future reference.

Man, I wish I'd known they were doing this at HPR. I would have been really interested in teaming up with some folks. I'm game watch. HPR is a nice track to hang out at.

That would be great. Thanks. I tried to create my own rough estimate but a lot of it depended upon the car.

I would suggest that if you are going to watch to come out on Saturday. As many as half of the cars won't be in the race Sunday due to breakdowns. BS inspections are Friday before the race.

I am on Team Mustache Ride with a bunch of buddies from my College days. We found out our application was accepted yesterday. Our ride is a 1984 Volvo 240 Turbo with the factory intercooler option. The car still needs a ton of work, but we have a guy on the team that owns his own shop near Wadsworth and I-70 with a lift, welding equipment, all the tools we could ever need and so forth.

Our current estimate is somewhere in the neighborhood of $5,000, which isn't bad when you split it 10 ways. Finding a car was the easy part, putting in all the safety equipment and making sure the thing will last for 18+ hours of driving is the hard part. Should be a good time though.

You could go with the obvious brick theme... brick red with grey grout lines...

Star Wars A-Wing..

Any way you could make it look like it was going backwards? I mean.. it's pretty symmetrical.

Actually its a wagon. And our theme is Mustache Ride, so we will all be sporting the Reno 911 look, minus the hot pants though.

As for the ride. We are thinking of going with either a flesh tone or rattle can white with painted on Aviators and a thick *** bushy molestache across the front of the car.

Please tell me you converted the wagon portion into a massive engine bay? Please?

What good is Reno 911 without the hot pants?!?

Pirates of the High Plains - You'd have to rig a sail that goes up and down with brakes/gas.. or an anchor, but that's probably a safety hazard. Can you rig up a steering actuated rudder?

A sail was a definite. We didn't think of the steering actuated rudder, but it's a terrific idea! We will have to try and incorporate that next year. If we made it in, and if we made it to the end, we wanted to run the last lap with the sail on fire... lol. Granted that would never be allowed, but it would sure be funny to see.

Sorry, no engine conversion this year, maybe next year, besdies dropping in a big block motor probably wouldn't pass the BS inspection, just a guess though.
