WTB:MX-6 GT suspension parts

Postby Ryan95 » Sun Jun 10, 2012 9:14

Building a lemons car, bought a 1st gen MX-6 GT, but it needs suspension work.
Looking for a good set of springs and struts, ideally aftermarket, but really I need anything I can get cheap.

These are fantastic cars all around, and a great choice for Lemons!
I joined Mazda Competition Parts (now Mazdaspeed) back in the 80s with my GT - the 5-door. At the time, the fastest Mazda sold (1990).

They are rock solid cars - strong subframes, decent handling. That motor has insane torque, too.

Remember the parts are the same as the Probe. I'll look around to see what I might have left. I bet there are parts from other cars that will fit it, especially shocks and springs.

Add a big oil cooler for the turbo, too. I suggest you don't mess with the boost, either - stripped and lightened, that car will be plenty fast and you risk messing with a solid reliable power system.

Oh - you'll want good brake ducts and brake cooling. Otherwise, you risk setting your pads on fire and actually warping your brake calipers from heat. I did!

I'm jealous and psyched for you - have a ton of fun!

Awesome, thanks for the advice. The car is fast as hell and is making a couple more psi than it should be. Probably gonna make a home depot boost controller to dial it back down a bit, especially since we'll be cutting off the exhaust. I have no doubts that it'll be the fastest straight line car there, we just need to make it more reliable.
