Rx8 Transmission PHAIL!!!

I know you've probably already checked on this, but doesn't someone make upgraded internals for the 8 tranny? If not, it might be easier to try to get a tranny shop to adapt the FD internals to the 8 tranny, rather than mess around with all the other stuff. Maybe not, just a thought.

I haven't seen anyone make upgraded internals for the 8 gearbox yet. I can't even find rebuild kits! Mazdamotorsports sells transmission internals that are stock and the whole kit is something like $1200 bucks. Hardly worth it when I can pick up a used gearbox for $600.

Swapping FD trans internals into the 8 gearbox is an interesting idea. I wish I knew more about transmissons, LOL. I know how they work but I can't really rebuild one otherwise I would try this myself.

I actually started to rebuild my first tranny a few years ago, but I kinda hit a wall when I needed gear puller arms that are like 6 feet long haha. I probably would have shit a brick seeing all the work involved though.

Well, it all comes down to what would be easier and cheaper...swapping in a whole FD tranny and having to deal with fitting everything, OR swapping just the internals, if that's even possible.

I think I will look into swapping the FD gearset into the RX-8 transmission housing, if it's even feasible. It would be a lot easier, haha.

I mainly want the FD gear ratios, tho! 1st gear SUCKS in a turbo 8, it's just wheelspin! I can't even launch the car, I just spin tire.
