I prefer binsearch.info. It's for Usenet and you have to pay a monthly fee to a provider (I prefer Astraweb, $11/mo), but you don't have to worry about having other people seeding for you or sharing anything off of your own computer. Plus you will always max out your connection speed on every download.

How safe are sites like these? Can you get viruses from them?

I would assume that you could eventhough you pay. I know you can off limewire as well as piratebay.org. If you have a good anti-virus though it will catch it before you run the program/file. I use AVG (their free version) and have never gotten a virus but it has saved me several times.
The nice thing about piratebay is that people leave comments on the download and will usually speak up if there is a virus.

I also run AVG free and malwarebytes free.
