Autocross

Postby bellalyssa » Tue Sep 28, 2010 9:14

Many of you may have noticed me hounding Chris to begin autocrossing. Consider this me beginning to bug you to do the same.

Winter events are the best events to attend for beginners. The big dogs generally don't come out, you can usually get more than 3 runs and it's great experience.

I really feel like we have some great driving experience in our group and I think it would be awesome if we could begin a CMZC motorsports group that goes out and competes. Whether its on a track or in a parking lot, I feel like this would greatly help our recruitment. The more involved we become in the community, the more people we can get to join up and share their insight.

For more info about racing, check out: http://www.scca.org or http://www.rmsolo.org.

See you out there soon!

great idea. I would love to start autocrossing. It is something I plan to do as soon as it is in my budget.

depending on what/when I get done with my car I will try and make some of these. Hopefully I'll have the money to do it as well.

I know she told me something about $40 for a weekend membership...something like that. But I'm sure the cost in tires/brakes would be a limiting factor for me.

You can compete without modifications on your car.

Guaranteed costs are:

Entry fee: $35.00 for CDR (PPIR and World Arena)
Entry fee: $40.00 for COR (Dick's Sporting Goods Park and the Pepsi Center)
Cash or check accepted on-site

You must be a member of SCCA to enter the event. Weekend memberships are $10.00. There are a number of membership options available, including discounts for families, military, and youth participants. Ask for details at Check-in on the event site.

I ran a few events on my dd tires and brakes. Tires are fine (I'll need new ones next year but that's because they were used when I got them) and I just had to replace the front rotors and pads due to warping.

In the grand scheme of things, it isn't that expensive unless you want to mod the shit out of your car.

I plan on doing the PPIR and World Arena events this winter. I may be able to make the October 17th event but the one in December I'll def be at.

The others are at Dicks Sporting Goods Park and I'll be at those as well as long as school is taken care of.

Keep me posted when the days get closer so that I remember to go.

I'd much rather run a road course than Auto-X I think, but that's probably a lot more expensive.

Either way, before I do EITHER, I want new brakes and the diff mounts, so it'll be awhile.

I'll try and keep people posted on when these are coming up as well. I'd like to get more involved and make it to more of these then the 1 I was able to this last summer. Its for sure a lot of fun to even go and just watch!

And since I'm not competing for points or anything, I'm sure so long as you have a helmet, I can give rides since I'm a "newbie" at it hehe.
